I'm not sure whether San Antonio counts as "middle America" or not, but every show today was sold out.
2-3 minute standing ovation at the end.
I suspect it will do quite well, grossing 80-100 Million.

Could be the first documentry ever to gross 100 million, the whole nation is talking about this movie, the country is very polarized at this time,I work in a factory where most people loathe Bush(we are talking like 120 out 0f 140 people just hate bush,am sure it is diffrent in the management office though but people on the factory floor cannot stand Bush lol)so almost everyone says they are going to see this movie, people that never even ever go to movies are going to see this so its boxoffice take could surprise a lot of people

Wow, that's amazing. I have to hand it to Moore...I've got no intention of watching the movie, but hell I'm impressed he's gotten a film of this sort to reach such mass saturation. It'll be interesting to see how this performs in the long run. I'd like to say it's a big opening and willl drop fast, but something tells me this things is going to perform quite well in the long run.

I won't predict a dollar amount, but this is certainly going to be one of the highest grossing documentaries ever (almost a given, seeing as it is enjoying the largest release for a documentary ever as well). I had a difficult time finding tickets for a show, numerous theaters I looked at online were near or completely sold out. The number of people waiting outside the theater who already had tickets 45 minutes before the movie started was unreal--I haven't seen a crowd that eager since Episode I came out!
Here's my question--seeing the demand for the film, is it possible that the number of theaters might be expanded even slightly in the next couple of weeks?

At our indie theater today, EVERY DAMN SHOW WAS SOLD OUT, INCLUDING A FREAKING MIDNIGHT SHOW!!!!!!!!!!
So, Fahrenheit 9/11's gonna make a REAL pretty penny or two.

Wow, I can't believe those numbers...that would be shocking if that 10 million estimate from today alone holds up--I simply don't understand how it could be making so much from so few screens.

I went to a 6:30pm show at the local theater, and it was at least 85% packed. The entire theater clapped and cheered once the credits began.
Then we exited the theater, and there was a line that wrapped all around the theater waiting for the next showing on that specific screen (the place I went to had it on two screens).
This film is going to make some serious bank.

so i was wondering. does disney still make any money on this now that they've sold the distribution rights to the two mirimax dudes?
i also think it'll make quite a bit of money, certainly in the high double digits.

I went to see it last night. I'm in Ohio...not exactly a major film market, however of the 5 theaters within a 30 mile radius of me 4 were showing it. I was going to go to the 7:55 showing with my girlfriend, but it was SOLD OUT. We bought tickets for the 10:40 showing. We come back at 10:15 and the freaking line is wrapped around the entire theater just to get in. We were like #475 in line. The theater held 500 and was sold out. We got stuck in the 3rd row on the floor
I'm guessing it'll do about 30 million or so this weekend. It had potential to do more if were on more screens, people were being turned away.

I must be sheltered here in Ohio. Evening ticket prices are $7.75 where I went. No more than $8.50 at other places.

Those numbers are theater counts, as in the number of theaters at which the film is playing, not counts of the number of prints of the film that have been released (aka the number of actual screens on which the film is showing). If a movie is showing in 2 screens at a theater, it only counts as one on the theater count.
So, if lots of theaters have F9/11 on two screens (as lots in Chicago, NYC, and probably other big cities do), it could actually be on 1500 or more actual screens.
As for ticket prices: $9.00 at most places in the chicago area; $10.25 in NY.

I suspect it is a high estimate that will drop down a bit like some other big openers have once real numbers come in. I would not be surprised to see it drop below 8 million maybe as low as 7.5 million.
Of course it will still end up far higher than I thought. I figure it will hit around 18-19 million range.

Depending on how well the movie does for the whole weekend, I could image other chains might think twice about showing it.
