Yeah only Bush and his cronies should do that. If it's playing on anywhere near 1000 screens, it's definitely coming close to $20 mil opening weekend. I know this is unprecedented for a doc, but this is clearly an exception. |
at least $10.00 (1 nyc ticket price) for me.
I think it will be the biggest grossing docu. |
The film is going to open huge. Everywhere you go people are talking about it and making plans to see it this weekend. I bet it opens at $20 million or maybe even a little more - obviously not Shrek or Spider-Man numbers, but very impressive for a documentary. This is not a film that will be gone in a couple of weeks. People will still be going to see it come August.
|
Personally I think the average person will not want to spend cash or time on a documentary. I mean c'mon it's a documentary for goodness sake! I'd be surprised if this breals 10 mil on its opening weekend. Most people I know pretty much could care less.
|
Why does everyone keep calling it a documentary?
As for opening weekend, $15 mil tops. |
ok, what else would you call it?
|
cruzness:
I think the average person will want to see it because of the "watercooler" factor. When this film opens, everyone will be talking about it on TV, at work, on the radio, on the internet; both those that hate Moore and those that like him. People will want to see F9/11 just to be included in conversations. If you're a conservative, you'll want to see it so you can have an educated opinion when you say you don't like it. |
I think it'll have a fairly small opening being on only 800 screens. I see it sticking around for a while, though. I could see it making close to 50 mil when it's all done...
|
Don't forget that organizations like MoveOn are holding group viewings on opening weekend and encouraging people to do the same. I've already purchased six tickets for a Saturday matinee in NYC for my friends and I.
I'm guessing $10 million opening, $35 million overall. |
It's about as much as a documentary as Ernest Goes to Jail is.
I say, 10-15 Million Opening, 25-30 Overall total |
its going to make $5.50 .....
this is an educated guess... LOLOL |

Fahrenheit 911 broke the box office records of the 2 theaters it played here in NY on Wednesday:

868 screens x $15,000 per screen = 13.02 million opening.
47 Million total is my guess. |
Originally posted by gcribbs 1 million per 100 screens opening weekend. so 750 screens equals 7.5 million. Of course I thought Around the World could make 20 million so what do I really know :) About as much as Eisner, apparently! -wink- |

40+ million
|
I"m going to upwardly revise my inital projection of 3-5 million to 9 million for the weekend. It'll run hot in big lib cities, NY, SF, Seattle, LA, Boston, etc, but run lukewarm in middle America. And by the way, even though some will say I'm raining on it's parade at 9 million I think it'd be a tremendous opening and something to be proud of.
|
My guess is that the movie will make about US$10 million this weekend if only for the curiosity factor.
But sorry, it'll be quickly eclipsed by Spiderman 2, which has been getting rave reviews and will likely make around US$135 million from June 30 to July 5, 2004. http://webpages.charter.net/connectingzone/agree/4.gif |
Not sure how much it will make, but I do know that almost all of my friends want to see the film. I'm guessing it's probably going to make $15 to $20 million this weekend. I do predict it will be the top-grossiing documentary of all-time...but considering the "buzz", I don't think that's too bold of a statement.
|
I'm going to say 11 million seeing how they won't have the 1000 screens they were hoping for.
|
I think $20 - $25 mil this weekend, topping out around $60 by the time the DVD comes out in Oct.

There might be some depressed Bush supporters on Monday:
(headline from http://www.moviecitynews.com/) "Fahrenheit 9/11 On Fire In Theaters... Early Numbers On Friday Projecting To A $10m - $12m Day... Sell Outs In Most Major Markets... Could Be A $30m Weekend..." |
