Yeah only Bush and his cronies should do that.

Thanks for the pointless contribution to the thread, Mr. "Senior Member". With your two cents maybe we can buy some chic-lets.

If it's playing on anywhere near 1000 screens, it's definitely coming close to $20 mil opening weekend. I know this is unprecedented for a doc, but this is clearly an exception.

Sunday Morning 06-22-04 06:29 PM

at least $10.00 (1 nyc ticket price) for me.

I think it will be the biggest grossing docu.

DrOBoogie1 06-22-04 08:15 PM

The film is going to open huge. Everywhere you go people are talking about it and making plans to see it this weekend. I bet it opens at $20 million or maybe even a little more - obviously not Shrek or Spider-Man numbers, but very impressive for a documentary. This is not a film that will be gone in a couple of weeks. People will still be going to see it come August.

cruzness 06-22-04 08:46 PM

Personally I think the average person will not want to spend cash or time on a documentary. I mean c'mon it's a documentary for goodness sake! I'd be surprised if this breals 10 mil on its opening weekend. Most people I know pretty much could care less.

Blake 06-22-04 09:28 PM

Why does everyone keep calling it a documentary?

As for opening weekend, $15 mil tops.

Sunday Morning 06-22-04 10:36 PM

ok, what else would you call it?

Bird Jenkins 06-22-04 11:03 PM

cruzness:

I think the average person will want to see it because of the "watercooler" factor. When this film opens, everyone will be talking about it on TV, at work, on the radio, on the internet; both those that hate Moore and those that like him. People will want to see F9/11 just to be included in conversations. If you're a conservative, you'll want to see it so you can have an educated opinion when you say you don't like it.

solipsta 06-23-04 12:17 AM

I think it'll have a fairly small opening being on only 800 screens. I see it sticking around for a while, though. I could see it making close to 50 mil when it's all done...

RevLiver 06-23-04 09:10 AM

Don't forget that organizations like MoveOn are holding group viewings on opening weekend and encouraging people to do the same. I've already purchased six tickets for a Saturday matinee in NYC for my friends and I.

I'm guessing $10 million opening, $35 million overall.

lcnickell 06-23-04 11:17 AM

It's about as much as a documentary as Ernest Goes to Jail is.

I say, 10-15 Million Opening, 25-30 Overall total

raven56706 06-23-04 12:11 PM

its going to make $5.50 .....

this is an educated guess... LOLOL

Docutainment.

Fahrenheit 911 broke the box office records of the 2 theaters it played here in NY on Wednesday:

HistoryProf 06-24-04 12:44 PM

868 screens x $15,000 per screen = 13.02 million opening.

47 Million total is my guess.

so 750 screens equals 7.5 million.

Of course I thought Around the World could make 20 million so what do I really know :)

About as much as Eisner, apparently! -wink-

And if this last paragraph from that CNN article is correct, receipts may be a lot higher than some are predicting:

<b>Online ticket service Fandango.com reported Wednesday that "Fahrenheit 9/11" was making up 48 percent of advance ticket sales for the weekend ahead, compared to 11 percent for "Dodgeball" and 9 percent for next week's "Spider-Man 2."</b>

ChrisKnudsen 06-24-04 06:34 PM

40+ million

The Nature Boy 06-24-04 08:03 PM

I"m going to upwardly revise my inital projection of 3-5 million to 9 million for the weekend. It'll run hot in big lib cities, NY, SF, Seattle, LA, Boston, etc, but run lukewarm in middle America. And by the way, even though some will say I'm raining on it's parade at 9 million I think it'd be a tremendous opening and something to be proud of.

RayChuang 06-25-04 12:22 AM

My guess is that the movie will make about US$10 million this weekend if only for the curiosity factor.

But sorry, it'll be quickly eclipsed by Spiderman 2, which has been getting rave reviews and will likely make around US$135 million from June 30 to July 5, 2004. http://webpages.charter.net/connectingzone/agree/4.gif

Shannon Nutt 06-25-04 05:01 AM

Not sure how much it will make, but I do know that almost all of my friends want to see the film. I'm guessing it's probably going to make $15 to $20 million this weekend. I do predict it will be the top-grossiing documentary of all-time...but considering the "buzz", I don't think that's too bold of a statement.

Jaymole 06-25-04 07:09 AM

I'm going to say 11 million seeing how they won't have the 1000 screens they were hoping for.

MrN 06-25-04 06:13 PM

I think $20 - $25 mil this weekend, topping out around $60 by the time the DVD comes out in Oct.

I think arguing that point is just as futile as arguing that Gore won the election - oh wait...

There might be some depressed Bush supporters on Monday:

(headline from http://www.moviecitynews.com/)
"Fahrenheit 9/11 On Fire In Theaters... Early Numbers On Friday Projecting To A $10m - $12m Day... Sell Outs In Most Major Markets... Could Be A $30m Weekend..."
