Your thoughts on The Notebook.
 

Haven't heard much about this movie with all the big summer blockbusters, but I read just a little on it on IMDB, and it sounds like it might be pretty good. Has anybody heard anything on this movie? Good? Bad? I think it opens in a couple weeks, now I am intrigued

I'm seeing a sneak preview of it this Thursday. I'll chime in with my thoughts then.

The previews make it look like "Sweet Home Alabama" redone as a serious period piece.

Well, that isn't the movie. I can assure you.

It's a textbook southern-fried romance, well acted by Rachel McAdams, and features stunning veteran work from James Garner and Gena Rowlands...

I was less impressed by Ryan Gosling, who people seem to love. His cliched, "method" brood is annoying, and he swallows his dialog over and over... He's not a good actor. Intense, but not good.

NOTEBOOK is a good summer tearjerker.

I did 2 screenings of this in the OC area . This makes Titanic look like Happy Gilmore. It was mostly women that attended.

IF romance makes you emotional

well now that I read the book, I don't really care for the Hollywood version of the novel. Cinematography is gorgeous and the cast is commendable.

Saw it at the opener tonite in Westwood and couldn't have said things better myself!

Why does the son of John Casavettes make these undercooked, phoney emotion, three hanky, lame ass movies?

Didn't he learn anything from his father? His father made movies with balls.

I just got back from the sneak preview of this and it was a decent tearjerker. A bit heavy-handed and cliched, but I sort of expected that going into it, so it really didn't take anything away from my view of the movie.

I, for one, enjoyed Gosling's performance. His scenes with McAdams were the highlight of the film (they both outshined Garner and Rowlands IMO).

I just saw it last night and I thought it was quite good. The shots were just beautiful and I thought the acting was superb. I thought Ryan Gosling and James Garner did a wonderful job.

Gosling especially not only looked older/younger but actually changed subtle mannerisms to really appear much older/younger.

Overall a good solid Romantic/Drama

Well, it was good, except for some parts of the screenplay. In certain scenes, the language was waaay off, and was more of a 2004 than 1940s. Whoever seen the movie, will most likely know what I am talking about.
