Your #1, favorite movie of all time thread!

We see all these threads about all these movies, the good, the bad, the ugly. Favorite horror, 80's, 90's, Clint Howard...
We all discuss genres, specifics, etc...But I don't think we have asked each other simply what are our #1 favorite movies of all time are.

The one movie that you just love to death for your own reasons because of the way it makes you feel or the time in your life you saw it. The one that you cherish and you don't care what anyone else thinks about it.

We should hear from every single DVD Talker and every single movie lover on this one...

My all time is "Die Hard". There are others (much more provocative "L.A. Confidential", edgy "Leon:The Professional", thought provoking, endearing "The Lion King", epic "Star Wars Trilogy" with sweet drama "Lost in Translation" and heart "It's A Wonderful Life"), but nothing made me feel the way this one did back in 1988. Edge of my seat, gasping for breath from start to finish. My love of movies thus began.

You know, mine changes. I guess I go through phases. Right
now, for some reason I could watch The Bourne Identity over
and over again and not tire from it. I'm sure that will change.
I'm not even a big Matt Damon fan, but I love that movie.

Empire Strikes Back and Raiders of the Lost Ark are two movies
that are very special to me for what they did for my love towards
movies at the time, if I had to pick one of those, I'd probably
go with Empire.

I'd have to say JAWS. I actually bought this on dvd when it came out even though I didn't yet have a dvd player! I always wind up watching it when it comes on TBS/TNT, which is like every other day. I sit there & quote all the lines throughout the movie, especially Quint's. And this drives people nuts when they watch it with me, but I just can't help it. And the movie's had the biggest psychological effect on me more than any other. I still get a little scared when I go in the water, any water, ocean, river, lake, pool.

My #1 Favorite of all time since I was a wee little one, and even moreso now.

Looks like I picked the wrong week to quit smoking!

Edited to add cover art.

Blade Runner
(there are other "close" ones, like Tarkovsky's 'Solaris' and 'Casablanca', to name just two, but Ridley Scott's film remains my favorite)

You may not believe it, but the forum existed before you joined six months ago. Trust me, the question has been asked.

But oh well, I'll bite. For a long time I always told people that Fight Club was my favorite movie. It was responsible for sparking my interest in film, and I can watch it over and over and still get something new out of it. But lately I've begun to realize that there are just too many good movies out there to name one my favorite. So I've begun to call Fight Club "one of my favorites" rather than "my definite all time favorite movie ever." There's just so many damn good movies out there.

So to answer the question, I guess I don't really have one.

Braveheart

Forrest Gump, came out when I was 8 and was one of the first movies (along with Jurassic Park) that I really loved. Must've seen it about 50 times.

E.T. is my all-time fav, hands down. Saw it in the theatre back in '82, watched it so much on video that I ruined my copy. Now I've got the dvd to share with my daughter. I don't see anything ever topping E.T. for me.

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon
This movie is the perfect combination of all the things I love about movies.

Copenhagen 06-20-04 09:25 PM

Casablanca, followed closely by Breakfast at Tiffany's and Gone with the Wind.

Goonies. I was 12 or so when I first saw it. And it encompassed everything that I felt on rainy weekends. Plus, it had that amazing water slide.

One of these 3, depending on my mood:

Casablanca
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon
Lord of the Rings: Return of the King

Michael T Hudson 06-20-04 09:29 PM

Empire Strikes back and Raiders of the Lost Ark.

Supermallet 06-20-04 09:37 PM

2001: A Space Odyssey by a long shot.

Rushmore

These four have been tied as my #1 for years now:
Au Revoir Les Enfants
Monsieur Hire
On Golden Pond
Spoorlos (The Vanishing, 1988)

smirnoff 06-20-04 11:24 PM

T2

Full on action, interesting plot, no attempt to include a love story, and I think the scene where arnold pulls the shotgun out of the box of roses is why I love movies.
