Saddest movie songs?

You know, the ones in movies that suddenly make you cry.

Jessie's Song in Toy Story 2 really took me out given I expected a pretty happy movie.

Any others?

i can't think of one that's actually made me cry, but "Needle in the Hay" playing over Luke Wilson's suicide attempt in the Royal Tenenbaums is particularly depressing.

Jortoz E' Ran (sic) from Blackhawk Down

I've never cried during a movie, but two songs that come to mind are Gary Jules' "Mad World" from the end of Donnie Darko and Aimee Mann's "Save Me" from the end of Magnolia. What's interesting is that the former was a replacement for a U2 song that the director couldn't get the rights to.

good choices doughboy.

Indeed. VERY effective.

Theme Song to "Love Story"

All Star usually brings me to tears.

MasterCXtreme 06-11-04 09:19 PM

Coal's "Stay" near the end of Chasing Amy always gets me a little emotional to say the least. :)

I'd have to say that its really only the classical type music that comes close to bringing a tear to my eye.

Robert 06-11-04 10:50 PM

Forrest Gump - 'Running on Empty' - Jackson Browne

palebluedot 06-11-04 11:38 PM

Barber - Addagio for Strings been in a few movies but heard throughout Platoon

It doesn't really make me cry, but "Comfortably Numb" on Pink Floyd's The Wall always makes me feel kind of empty. It's weird, because it's one of my favorite songs, and I think it's really beautiful, but I hate the way it makes me feel.

Any of the songs from the Saddest Music in the World?

Michael Corvin 06-12-04 12:58 AM

Streets of Philadelphia - Bruce Springsteen for, well, Philadelphia.

ReduxGuy 06-12-04 02:55 AM

And "Llorando" from Mulholland Dr.

The only song I've ever heard that was actually sad on its own is Everybody Hurts by REM. I can't really think of anything else.

Nick Danger 06-12-04 06:56 AM

"Knockin' on Heaven's Door" in Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid. I never appreciated the song until I saw it in the movie. I didn't like the movie all that much, either. But what a knockout scene.

TomOpus 06-12-04 08:59 AM

"Ave Maria" from Alive. The slow shot as the camera approaches the cross marking the site of the crash is very poignant.

devilshalo 06-12-04 09:10 AM

Just Once by James Ingram
During the end credits as Gary drives away in Last American Virgin

Gyno Rhino 06-12-04 09:12 AM

The theme from "Deer Hunter" has always gotten to me.
