Tough weekend to catch a new movie...

Wow. This weekend's openers seem to have bomb written all over them. There have not been many summer weekends where the top 3 most marketed releases are as bad as the three coming this weekend (Riddick, Stepford, Garfield).

Collectively they are averaging about 20% rating on rottontomatoes.com - ouch.

Note that I'm only talking about the most hyped releases this week - that does not make all the rest bad.

The Potter makers must be loving this!

It's all a matter of opinion....I'll be happily catching a flick at the theater this week.. However, last week there was nothing I wanted to see.

You are right about this weekend not having any sure fire blockbusters, but each movie is attracting a specific crowd.

Well I guess I don't belong to any crowd then. I must be in the good movie crowd.

I'm hoping Saved! will be pretty good.

I agree, this week has pretty weak movie releases. July is looking good though, Spiderman 2.

It's a pretty bad weekend for movies, but I still have faith in this summer!

This week is nothing really to jump up for joy, but I would be hard press to say that they have Bomb written on all of them.

Riddick will be 2 hours of entertainment and big explosions.

Stepford should be a decent date flick/older crowd

Garfield is for the kids that have seen potter and shrek 2 one to many times.

Saved! for the indie audiance

those lucky to be in NY and L.A. have a chance to catch Naploen Dynomite.

A weekend for everyone I say.

Wow.. you think this weekend is bad and you're looking forward to Spiderman 2? I guess that just goes to show how much opinions can vary.

I'm afraid it's not. It's not awful, just not very good.

I dunno. I liked Saved! a great amount. Good acting, decent story, no bias one way or another with the characters. I enjoyed it.

I liked Saved quite a bit too, like it even more the more I think about it, but it surely did have a bias.

Jack, I think you are the only reviewer in the country that has said this movie doesn't have bias. But I'll take your word for it.

Well it bashes both equally. Some reviews say that it's to religious, there is other views that say it's to anti-religious.

Coming from someone who grew up going to catholic schools, was an alter server and did a lot for the church and now totally does not believe in any sort of god and all the way atheist.. I can say that I have seen my share of both sides of the fence and I can say that this film doesn't lean one way more than the other and does a good job playing off both of them.

I know one thing, I have never seen a movie theater as packed as the one I went to last night. Sheesh.

Looks like it didn't end up being a tough weekend to catch a new movie as all three new releases went past 20 million each. Not bad if you ask me. Looks like everyone had something to watch.
