Maybe because of copyrights, Hollywood likes to use them laywers alot. And all of those movies you listed are not the same.

Armageddon is an "Action Film"
Deep Impact is a "Disaster Drama"
Dante's Peak takes place in the mountains and pertains to an event that could happen
Volcano is a "Disater Fantasy" about destoying LA
A Bug's Life is about an Ant who has to save his village from Grasshoppers
Antz is about Woddy Ant trying to score with Ant Stone

See none of those are alike

Wait... Nora Ephron's directing this?

Really?

I take back everything positive I said before.

This movie is gonna blow.

I really hope this is not the premise of the movie. If it is, the movie will be very very bad. What a shame.

There's eight billion wretched TV-to-movie adaptations. This sort of slant makes the movie that much more interesting than just yet another ridiculous, pad a 22-minute sitcom into a 95-minute anal ejection.
i agree.

Give Hollywood points for trying to do something different.

I wouldn't put anything past Will Ferrell. He's never let me down. I'm sure this'll be good.

From ComingSoon.net

Jason Schwartzman is Bewitched
Source: Production Weekly Thursday, June 24, 2004

Jason Schwartzman will join Nicole Kidman and Will Ferrell in Columbia Pictures' big screen Bewitched adaptation, to be directed by Nora Ephron, says Production Weekly. He is set to play the agent of Darrin Stephens (Will Ferrell). Michael Caine (Nigel), Shirley MacLaine (Endora), Joan Plowright (Aunt Clara) and Kristen Chenoweth (Marie) round out the cast.

Samantha (Kidman), a powerful member of the society of witches that has lived apart from (and disdained) humanity for many centuries, falls in love with a mortal, Darrin Stephens. Much to the disgust of most of her family, she vows to give up witchcraft and become an ordinary suburban housewife, raising a family (bearing Tabitha and Adam). Never able to give up her heritage completely, the friction between the matriarchal, moneyless society of her birth and the patriarchal, capitalist society of modern advertising drives the comedy.

The trade adds that production is scheduled to begin late-August in Los Angeles.
So I'm not sure that the storyline mentioned by the originator of this thread is accurate. This sounds more like a straight adaptation of the tv program.

Well amen to that! If it is going to be a straight adaptation that is. I hope so. Joan Plowright eh? This is uncanny if this is true. I picked Kidman, MacLaine and her to be in this movie in some poll on another movie newsgroup several years ago. Again, I also picked Jim Carrey (for Darren), Steve Martin (as Larry Tate), Sean Connery (as Maurice) and Edie McClure (as Gladys Kravitz).

I'm pretty sure Jim Carrey was the first choice for Darren, if my memory serves me right.

And what a damn shame he didn't do it. He would have be PERFECT! I like Ferrell a great deal. I still can't see him as Darren though. Oh well.

Actually I think Jim Carrey would be better suited to play Uncle Arthur.

That means my interest in this film went from a 6 down to a 1. Another remake.

Yikes! I think that would be terrible casting (imo). Someone like Jim J. Bullock or Scott Thompson from "Kids in the Hall".

And Charlie, the majority of the posts I read on the internet have been in favor of this being a faithful adaption of the show. Not that awful story within a story theme.

You know, I'm a big fan of Nicole and Will, but geez louise, that trailer stinks on ice. Looks like this year's "Stepford Wives." Why couldn't they just be a little simpler and not try to get all meta-clever? I'm definitely waiting for the DVD rental to check this out. Besides, Nicole probably doesn't even get nekkid in it.

Yeah, does not look good. I know, big surprise. They should have stuck with just a big screen version of the show.

I saw the trailer for this. Feh.

When will the insanity end? And I know I'm going to get flamed for this, but IMHO Nicole Kidman is the most overhyped actress out there. Don't believe me? Look at the tale of the tape, not including her TV work...

The Stepford Wives (2004)
Cold Mountain (2003)
The Human Stain (2003)
Dogville (2003)
The Hours (2002)
Birthday Girl (2001)
The Others (2001)
Moulin Rouge! (2001)
Eyes Wide Shut (1999)
Practical Magic (1998)
The Peacemaker (1997)
The Portrait of a Lady (1996)
The Leading Man (1996)
Batman Forever (1995)
To Die For (1995)
My Life (1993/I)
Malice (1993)
Far and Away (1992)
Billy Bathgate (1991)
Flirting (1991)
Days of Thunder (1990)

I'll give you To Die For, which was a pretty good role--but look at the rest...tons of dogs in there. Bewitched will simply add to the list.

It looks pretty awful, Jimmy Carrey was wise to not do it. With that said, don't under estimate the stupidity of the public. When is this movie coming out and against what other movies? I see it doing decent buisness due to the popularity of Will Ferrel if released against nothing huge like Batman Begins or Star Wars.

Nicole Kidman can just wrinkle her pretty little nose for 90 minutes and I am on board.

I mean, what's with the whole movie within a movie (TV show?) anyway? Hell, just scrap the "Bewitched" storyline and characters and make it about the difficult Hollywood star and the witch he meets.

I guess I'm wierd, because I thought the trailer looked kinda fun.

But then this is coming from someone who hated the original series. (i.e. powerful female playing obedient housewife to a little weasel of a husband)

PERSONALLY, I would classify these as good to excellent features.

Kidman is A-OK in my book.

Agree. Even in her not so great films, she always shines IMO.
