Hollywood still hasn't figured out that...
only PG-13 films bring in the big bank. I'm very happy that Hollywood still finances risky films when the majority of films out there barely break even and the ones that actually make a profit are mostly PG-13 family friendly films. Still they keep churning out films year after year.

So, what about all three Matrix flicks, The Passion of the Christ, Beverly Hills Cop, Saving Private Ryan, Terminator 2..........
Sure, most flicks aren't rated R to draw more numbers, but not all R flicks are bombs as you imply. |

Not everything in this world needs to be family-friendly.

You know, I get this strong feeling Hollywood knows much better than we do what brings in the money and what doesn't. They might not knowwhat's good, they might not know how to make films people will enjoy, but they do seem to know how to make films that open well. And...well...aren't most big films pg-13 anyway? Seems to me Hollywood has figured this out, and a long time ago.
To the original poster...what exactly makes you think Hollywood doesn't get it that pg-13 movies make the most money? Sure there are lots of R rated films, but how many mega budget R rated films? Not many when you go there... |

I can't wait till those PG loving jackasses at Warners watch their precious PG film flop on June 4th.

Making all movies PG-13 would not make them all successful. A balance is needed so the market doesn't become oversaturated with too many films of one type or aimed at one demographic. I think Hollywood HAS figured out that PG-13 draws a large crowd, but they also know that not everything should be PG-13. ;)

I think the opposite is true. Look at how many folks here bash films simply because of that PG-13 rating.
A balance is needed and I don't give a rats ass about ratings. if it's a good movie, it's a good movie regardless of the rating. R rated films still bring in plenty of bank and frankly, I don't think films are suppose to be marketed towards only a family friendly market. There is an audiance for everyone. Making family friendly films only is like making vanilla ice cream at an ice scream shop. different flavors for different folks. |

Usually the only ratings that hurt a movie are G and NC-17. Lots of places don't show NC-17 films, and most G movies are dismissed as toddler fare. Most movies in those categories are cut to a PG/R rating to bring in the draw. In regards to G I'm talking about live action films, of course.
