I haven't seen all of the earlier ones, but I chose Cuckoo's Nest. I thought he was great in Something's Gotta Give.

While I loved his performance in The Shining, gotta go with Cuckoo's Nest.

For me, it's HOFFA. Why? Because it's one of Jack's few movies where I feel like I'm watching the character and not Jack Nicholson. A very underrated performance and movie.

About Schmidt (2002), but I think he does a great job every time he performs. He was also great in Witches of Eastwick.

I don't see "As Good As It Gets" listed--he won the Oscar for that role!

My all time favorite actor.

Took me a while to choose, but it would have to be FIVE EASY PIECES.

The first person to say "Batman", I swear to god I am paying a hit man to beat the crap out of you. That was so NOT The joker, it's not even funny. It was Jack playing Jack-Being-Insane instead of the Joker.

You want good charaction of Joker? Mask of the Phantasm - Mark Hamell nails it DEAD on in that one. He so owns Jack, it's not even funny.

"Darling. Light, of my life. I'm not gonna hurt ya. You didn't let me finish my sentence. I said, I'm not gonna hurt ya. I'm just gonna bash your brains in. I'm gonna bash 'em right the **** in. Ha, ha."

But seriously - his best performance is Cuckoo's Nest.

Is this his fault so much as the fault of the writer & director? And, personally, I think he played "Jack playing Jack-Being-Insane" quite well. Though is it his best performance? Not really.

I really thought he was stunning in Cuckoo's Nest and The Shining, but remembering the ending of About Schmidt makes me all teary eyed. I'll going with Schmidt---tough choice though.

Yeah - it's mostly the writer and Burton's fault. However I hear TONS of people gushing over jack, saying "Oh he was the BEST Joker ever." These people clearly have no clue how what the Joker is like in the comics. Hell, Ceaser Romero did a better job that Jack did.

Sorry - just a pet peve of mine.
