What the hell happened to Meg Ryan?

She had a couple dumper movies, some boxing movie and that kinky "In The Cut" never saw either, whats up she use to be a big box office draw??

Groucho 05-25-04 11:02 AM

I dunno. She did "Amityville 3D" and then fell off the radar I guess.

devilshalo 05-25-04 11:06 AM

When was she a big box office draw? Of her films, the draw was of her and a leading male co-star. When Harry Met Sally, Sleepless in Seattle, & You've Got Mail are the only hits that I can think of.

In the Cut (2003)
Kate & Leopold (2001)
Proof of Life (2000)
Hanging Up (2000)
You've Got Mail (1998)
Hurlyburly (1998)
City of Angels (1998)
Addicted to Love (1997)
Courage Under Fire (1996)
Restoration (1995)
French Kiss (1995)
I.Q. (1994)
When a Man Loves a Woman (1994)
Flesh and Bone (1993)
Sleepless in Seattle (1993)
Prelude to a Kiss (1992)
Doors, The (1991)
Joe Versus the Volcano (1990)
When Harry Met Sally (1989)
Presidio, The (1988) .... Donna
D.O.A. (1988)
Promised Land (1987)
Innerspace (1987)
Armed and Dangerous (1986)
Top Gun (1986)
Amityville 3-D (1983)

Giles 05-25-04 11:08 AM

her 2004 film 'Against the Ropes' was simply awful.

DVD Josh 05-25-04 11:10 AM

She got old. Really.

devilshalo 05-25-04 11:13 AM

I find it ironic that as her career is taking a downward spiral.. Dennis Quaid's seems to have been rejuvenated when it was the total opposite a decade before.

Achtung 05-25-04 11:16 AM

I think she and Tom Hanks were supposed to be the next big on-screen couple, but then Hanks realized he could do much better than a bunch of sappy romantic comedies.

bardevious 05-25-04 11:17 AM

It's called "being a woman over the age of 40 in Hollywood".

fixed.

cungar 05-25-04 11:51 AM

She's like that pretty but annoying girlfriend you had. You can put up with her for a while but once she starts pumping collagen into her lips to look young, it's time to move on.

Abob Teff 05-25-04 12:30 PM

Actually, it's called a botched face lift, have you seen her?! She used to be one of my ultimate hotties (I know, there are much better, but she is just so damn cute/sexy) but she had some surgery and now looks like some demonic cupie doll (like Katie Couric and the Olsen twins).

conscience 05-25-04 12:52 PM

oh and she has been in hiding since having her lips done.

She looks awful.

And French Kiss is a fave of mine. :D

Groucho 05-25-04 12:58 PM

There are still plenty of good roles for a woman Ryan's age:

* Grandmother

* Bag Lady

* Wisecracking Receptionist

POWERBOMB 05-25-04 01:43 PM

I recall an interview whereas she said she was tired of the persona she had created in Hollywood. She was ready to dramatically change her image.

I used to listen to this D.J. named Kidd Kraddick who was was over for Meg Ryan. But then she started doing stoopid stuff and even he couldn't stand her anymore. Nothing like a fallen idol to make your realize all those years are wasted.

I used the wrong words in saying "big box office draw" that was a little over the top.

I agree with the Dennis Quaid comment though, his is getting better

BFD...

DRG 05-25-04 04:27 PM

She's thrived over the years over being the cute single gal, which doesn't work as well when you're in your 40s. At this point she should be gracefully transitioning to the comedy mom/wife roles (like Bonnie Hunt in Cheaper By the Dozen) but she seems to desperately cling to her youth type romantic/sexy roles (In the Cut, drastic plastic surgery). If she keeps it up she'll be trying to play romantic single gal after 50. It worked for Diane Keaton, but Something's Gotta Give was about older romance... if Meg does it she'll probably try to pass herself off as 34.

She's pulling the female equivalent of a 'comb-over'.

She gave one of her best performances ever in "In the Cut." Too bad the movie was mediocre.

riley_dude 05-26-04 02:39 PM

I think people got sick of her doing the same ol' perky roll so she did some other more serious roles and they werent very good. That plus her lips got real big.
Let's hope she has more luck than Jennifer Grey after her plastic surgery.

She could always do When Harry Met Sally Again.
