At least Fox did not put up New York Minute or else you would be taking a pay cut
This should do well plus I think I Robot will be a surprise hit.

There's an editorial in USA Today (linked on Drudge) where a scientist is slamming the hell out of how impossible for the things in this movie to happen. Of course, most of us enjoy a good science fiction movie realizing it's make believe. But this scientist is concerned how politicians are using it for environmental causes.
Fine, whatever... then I learned that this movie is based on a book written by Art Bell. Ugh. Now I'm not sure I'll even rent this for fun.

Why can't anybody ever give a straight answer?

Info. on Art Bell:

His radio shows are pretty wild - very conspiracy-oriented. Basically, he's the kind of guy who would view the X-Files episodes (especially the wackier ones) as fact.

I'm getting tired of disaster movies with FX as the star.

Since the effects are (supposedely) the star of this movie, it seems to be screaming to be seen on the big screen. I'll do it that justice, but I'm not expecting much.

I'm surprised to see so much interest in it. I don't mean to threadcrap but this movie does not pique my interest at all. It looks like the hundreds of disaster movies to come before it and doesn't seem to offer anything new. Again I haven't seen it just my impressions by the previews. I think it will bomb but maybe it will usher in a new era of disaster films like the 70's or 90's.

Saw a preview earlier tonight. It wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be, but not very good either. Its premise is too absurd to consider even in the context of a brain-dead summer film, and the effects aren't numerous enough to make it worth seeing.
It kept my attention, but barely. There are only two really good scenes, both involving natural disasters striking major U.S. cities (tornadoes in Los Angeles and flooding in New York). If you think 20 minutes of superb visual effects make it worth sitting through another hour-and-a-half of dull survival scenerios, then by all means, check it out. Otherwise, skip it.
