Los Angeles GODZILLA fans "Heads up"

Just a heads up to remind you that this is the last week you can see the original Japanese version of "GOJIRA" at the NUART in West LA. The LA run ends on 5/27. If you want to make the drive it will be in San Diego too.

Gojira Tour Dates from the official site

The very first U.S. release of the original, uncut Japanese version that launched one of the most enduring and beloved screen monsters ever. Directed by the legendary Ishirô Honda, Gojira (its original title, a mixture of the Japanese words for "gorilla" and "whale") is much darker in tone than the U.S. release edition, which de-emphasized the film's underlying theme of burgeoning nuclear menace, effectively obscuring a narrative meant as a cry for world peace and disarmament. New 35mm print coinciding with the 50th anniversary of the film's premiere. (Fully subtitled)

Director: Ishirô Honda

Cast: Akira Takarada, Momoko Kochi, Akihiko Hirata, Takashi Shimura, Fuyuki Murakami, Sachio Sakai, Toranosuke Ogawa, Ren Yamamoto, Miki Hayashi, Takeo Oikawa, Seijiro Onda, Tsuruko Mano, Toyoaki Suzuki, Kokuten Kodo, Kin Sugai

MPAA Rating: NR
Run Time: 1hr 38mins

Release Year: 1954
Country Of Origin: Japan

Here's the film schedule for the NUART so you can enjoy other great...or not so great but fun films anyway

After the very successful run at the AFI's Kennedy Center Theatre and the Silver Theatre I am a little surprised that Washington DC isn't getting part of this retrospect... oh well.

wait...this didn't just show the uncut Gojira 54. It was many recent and rarely shown G movies.

The LA event did not show the 1954 Godzilla. I was there Thurs-Sun and it was great! Godzilla: Tokyo SOS was visually stunning, with the best kaiju sequences to date IMO. As a movie, it's not quite as good as the previous movie, Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla. Still, very very entertaining.

I also got a chance to see Gigantis the Fire Monster for the first time, which was a treat (although not a great G film). San Francisco's GodzillaFest will be in November. Can't wait for that!
