They're still trying to figure that one out, it appears a lot of people did NOT know it came out Wednesday, or perhaps they just couldn't get there.
But see, all my friends who are not a movie geek like me, knew that the film was opening on Wednesday and HAD to see it that Wednesday. When I went to a Wednesday 4:55pm showing, the theater was mostly 1/5th full. When I saw that turn-out, on an opening day of what should be a blockbuster film, I thought then and there the film was DOA.

It was to pricey as it was already in the 200's.. so unless you were well off you wouldn't be able to afford much.. but god damn, that's going to be a 300+ adjust.

I sold everything that I had and bought Shrek stock. Granted, I didn't even have 10,000 shares in it, but what I had will go through the ceiling. I knew that it was going to blow the roof off the joint!

Just updated at HSX.com It went up 94.47! Wow!

Once the call price is adjusted, anyone big into Shrek should see a nice sized bump.

Just read the box office report -- $125 million for 5 days!! That's incredible! Next movie that might come close or beat the Ogre is: Spiderman 2! I don't see anything else will come close to these movies. Bring on Shrek 3 and 4 now...

No. They were a separate company that Disney had an agreement with to make flicks. That deal has since dissolved.

... after the next two films

Disney will still be able to make movies based on the characters of the films covered under their original agreement I think.

I think the wednesday release was not very successful because it is a primarily a family film. At least in this area kids were still in school until Friday so you lost a lot there. Also I think a lot of people questioned whether or not it would actually be a good film or not. Usually Wednesday openings are reserved for films with a real cult following ie Matrix, LotR, Star Wars, Harry Potter, Spiderman etc.

I don't know but I don't think any animated film opened on a Wednesday.

Wonder how good Spidey 2 will do(it also opens on a Wed - if i'm correct). 125mil is insane(i thought it would do 70-80 mil. for Wed-Sun. We don't have long to wait.

What can help spidey pass that number is if they make damn sure everyone knows that it's being released on a WEDNESDAY! There was some confuse with Shreks release date....that 125mil number could have been higher possibly.

lets see what spidey does...

I saw it wednesday and the theater turn out was actually bigger then when I usually go during the week. A wednesday release may not have been a sell out, but it was certainly not a bad turn out. Besides, you get those who don't have school such as the younger childern with their grandparents or what have you. It did what? 11 million on wednesday? That's pretty good numbers if you ask me. Also a highlight to reach 125 by the end of the first weekend was a plus and the ability to say that adds to advertisement. People who didn't see it in the weekend turn around and automaticlly assume it must be good if it made that much by the weekend and will be more inclined to go see it.

Summer is kicking in. Kids may or may not have it start yet, but a few of them already are on it so they can cash in on that select market. simple as that.

Looks like Mean Girls and Man on Fire will end up with about $75 mil a piece. Not bad.

The actuals just came in and Shrek 2 was under-estimated by $4 mil to put it's opening weekend at $108 mil. Thta's only around $5 mil away from Spidey's 3-day record! It also has the biggest single day total ever with Saturday's $44.8 mil as well as biggest Sunday ($34.9m).

It looks like Shrek made it's money back in just 1 week of showings, if 2x costs is to be believed. From now on the rest is just icing on the cake. I saw the movie, but did not like it. It was not as funny as the first and it seemed to drag on quite a lot. But the audiences have spoken and I'm in the minority it seems!
