Worst Movie Ever?

I know these come up from time to time, but after watching TB's "Ed Wood" the other night for the first time in about 6-7 years, I thought "Ok, gotta get this EW movies from Netflix" - since I'd never seen them.

First of all, I got "Bride of the Monster". That movie is awful, laughable, cheesy, and everything you'd expect. But I thought "I've certainly seen worse". I just saw a "B" horror movie called "Scarecrow Slayer" a couple of weeks ago that was WORSE than BotM.

Then I started watching "Plan 9..." a couple of nights ago....

And it's BY FAR, worse than anything I've ever seen. Yes, it's fun to goof on, laugh over, shake your head, etc. But it's kinda sad that this guy was REALLY TRYING. Plan 9 makes BotM look like an Oscar winner!

So I thought I'd open it up - has anyone seen a worse movie?

The Hulk, Waterworld, Godzilla (1998) and Sylvester Stallone's Driven immediately pop into my head. I'd add Wild, Wild West as well - but I've never sat through it completely, so I won't put it on my list.

I'm sure there are MUCH worse movies that these, but I don't go see movies in the theater that I think look awful, and if I'm watching on TV, I usually tune out when I get bored. I don't think you can say a movie is "the worst" if you haven't sat through the whole thing. The four movies I've mentioned above are the closest I've ever come to walking out of a theater.

I've only sat through two of those (Hulk & Godzilla). I still don't even understand HOW anyone could like the Hulk, but oh well. The other two - I'd rather have my teeth drilled for 2 hours.

But Plan 9, IMNSHO, is SO much worse than the Hulk or Godzilla. I can't recommend P9FOS highly enough!

Oh, and I fell asleep during "George of the Jungle". That's the first and only time I fell asleep in a movie theater.

None of us have seen the worst movie ever. The worst movie ever has not been released.

Yeah, what he said. Episode III doesn't release until next year.

Which of the live-action LOTR movies had the sequence where the little weasal guy talks to himself? That was pretty awful. The other two movies weren't too bad, though and I like the cartoons.

Take your pick.

Um, they're called "Star Wars, Episodes 2 & 3" - his name is Hayden Christensen. :D

I haven't seen any of the movies from the poll list, but I have a few of my own:

Blair Witch Project
The Jackal
The Hulk
Island of the Dead

kcbrett5 05-21-04 03:35 PM

I vote Poolhall Junkies. It was easily the worst movie ever made.

Hiro11 05-21-04 03:47 PM

Manos is without a doubt the worst I've seen. Red Zone Cuba (Night Train to Mundo Fine) and The Girl in Gold Boots are close seconds.

Kal-El 05-21-04 03:51 PM

I don't know about that poll but for me it's still M. Night's Unwatchable followed closely by The Crappy Thin Red Line.

The Blair Witch Project was the biggest, steaming piece of shit in the history of cinema.

24 Hours in London...a guy gets stabbed in the eye with a screwdriver and doesn't even seem to stop for a second.

cleaver 05-21-04 04:05 PM

Worst one I've seen: Angel Eyes.

asianxcore 05-21-04 04:08 PM

Medicine Man
Island of Dr. Moreau

I would rather watch the "All Plan 9 Channel" than ever have to watch even a minute of "Dreamcatcher" again. Note to film makers: Calling your monster a "Crap Weasel" doesn't make it scary, it just evokes laughter from the audience.

I think it was Ebert who said the worst thing a movie can do is not be entertaining. "Plan 9" is certainly entertaining, so in my mind it's not bad. It may be *inept*, but it's not bad.
