Pretty neat site. Not a bad list at all. Im glad they put that thing with the guy in the dog suit from The Shining. That part is scary as hell even though I don't know why.

Great to see the "nurse" scene from The Exorcist III on there. A very underrated movie and a hell of a scene.

What I don't like...

he's got a fixation on The Shining. And Poltergesit. And body snatcher movies. They take up too much of the list.

Some "scariest scenes" are pretty damn tame too. Quint's speech? GREAT, yes, but scary? Um, no.

Well Donna, it's a list of scary movies. It's not based in fact, it's just that person's opinion. Not everything will be something you like.

I think it's a great list.

Oh no Sean, I know it's a great list... it's a great read, and there's a lot of nice surprises. It's not just his opinion, I might add; he says he had lots of e-mails on what to include.

I just figured that, since all the posts have been positive so far, it might be nice to get a different view.

Here's some stuff I think belongs in there:

I don't know how many of you have ever seen Jacob's Ladder, but it's filled with frightening images. None moreso than when Tim Robbin's character's girlfriend (played by Elisabeth Pena) attempts to wake him up; she says "wake up! Wake up!" and then, facing the camera, eyes empty and black, she shouts "WAKE UP!!!"

It'll scare the hell out of you.

What else...

The Others has a couple of very good frights. "I've seen the old woman the most..." yeah, but wait till WE see her!

The 6th Sense
"C'mon! I'll show you where my father keeps his gun..."

Not a bad list ... you could always argue about one scene over another, but it's pretty good.

With one glaring exception ... one of the scariest moments in all of filmdom is from the French classic DIABOLIQUE when
Spoiler:
the fully-clothed dead body in the bathtub slowly starts to get up

Overall, a good list, but I think The Shining made the list a few too many times.

Awesome that the "You wanna see something really scary?" scene from The Twilight Zone: The Movie made it in there.

a lot of Willy Wonka freaked me out, when I was young, the Umpa Lumpas, the kid sucked up into the chocolate tube (where did he go!?!)

Zombie - the zombies as they emerged from the trees toward the barn, that's very nightmarish.

In the Mouth of Madness - the creatures behind the walls.

Dolls -
Spoiler:
shrunken heads

The Eye -
Spoiler:
the ghost in the elevator

Close Encounters of the Third Kind
Spoiler:
the alien down the chimney and up through the ac grate

The Innocents -
Spoiler:
the ghost by the lake

I Walked With A Zombie -
Spoiler:
the zombie's shadow

The Brood -
Spoiler:
the bloody arms through the door

quite a few he lists are in my opinion gore moments not per se scary moments.

Spoiler:
While I haven't seen this movie for years, I think they mean the very end after all of the segments - with Dan Akroyd (sp?) and the other ambulance driver - right before the end credits.

Again, it's been a while, but from what I remember...

Spoiler:
Two guys (one of them being Dan Akroyd) are driving down the road. After playing a game where they take turns guessing TV theme songs, they start telling scary stories and trying to one-up each other. Finally, Akroyd says something like, "Do you wannna see something really scary?", after which he suddenly turns into a monster and attacks the other guy.

I can't remember if this was all in the beginning of the film, the end of the film, or broken up into two parts.

Any help or clarification would be appreciated.

The scene you describe happens at the very beginning of the film...but, the last scene of the film in which John Lithgow is being carried away to the nuthouse after the "monser at 80,000 feet", we see him mumbling about it being scary or whatnot, and the driver turns around and it is Dan Akyrod and he says again, "What to see something really scary". Then pan back to Lithgow looking horrified at the camera. Roll credits.
