IMO, Spike is one of the few directors in Hollywood creative enough to pull this off. Personally, I have nothing but total faith in his abilities to adapt my favorite childhood story.

I'm trying REALLY hard to hold in personal attacks on Rival11 right now, really hard.
Spike Jonze is an awesome director. I'll never judge a movie before it's made...I might judge a preview, but never an idea. You never know how it'll be pulled off.
As for children's movies being pansy movies, for your sake, I hope you haven't missed out on any Pixar gems.

While the title of my thread attracted all sorts of Spike Jonze fans, I definitely wasn't expecting everybody to agree with me but why in the hell would you argue with me? Definitely state what you think would be great about his next film and why you think it could work but don't expect people who have never liked this kind of material to all of a sudden change their ways because YOU think they're wrong.
I love Spike Jonze only after just recently watching Adaptation and Being John Malkovich - I think he's a brilliant director with a load of talent and I'm extremely happy that I found another director I really like.
What you forget is that whenever this film is released, I could eat my own words and I have no problem doing that (Dawn of the Dead remake), but for right now I'm not too thrilled about his next project. Even if it's extremely well done but still has a family feel to it - I won't enjoy it because I'm simply not into those kinds of movies.
If you like it well then that's great, I'm sure a million other people will too, I myself will pass on it if it's like I described above and wait for news on his next film.
Reagardless of what anybody has to say, It's perfectly fine to talk about a movie before it's released and form an opinion on what you think is going to happen or how it's going to be, that's part of the damn game whether you like it or not.
Think a little more freely and don't be afraid to have a voice.
I hate Pixar flicks.

Don't be afraid to have a voice? I'm not going to type up a personal attack because it's against forum rules.
Ah, **** it.
You're an idiot if you're going to judge something before it's even made. I feel sorry for people like that, they miss out on so much.

Catwoman has already been made and we're seeing stills and hearing buzz about the actual film. Production hasn't even started on Spike Jonze's next flick. There's a difference.

Like I said, If it's a family/kids theme, forget about it, I'm out - no matter how well it's directed or how great the story is or whatever.
Here's a little side note: You don't see me going into other people's threads and bashing them for what they like, people like different things in the movies they like/love and this is all I'm talking about. I also haven't said anything negative about Spike or other peoples comments with the exception of cousre being dumbed down replies or telling me I'm wrong for sticking to what I like.

I have a long-standing hatred for kid-oriented fantasy movies/franchises, but the idea of Spike Jonze doing this and getting such a great cast lined up (Benicio Del Toro, Catherine Keener, Forest Whitaker, TOM NOONAN!) had me intrigued. Watched the clip and...wow. If it's any indication, this is going to be a great movie. Loved the cinematography, the Wild Thing design was something you never see nowadays, and especially loved the music.
