Definitely want to see it! However, will wait a week or so to hear the buzz (sorry, don't trust critics!) to decide if it will be in the theater or wait for the DVD. General rule of thumb: if they have to say in the early reviews or the trailers "Better than the first" then it generally is NOT. So that has me worried.

...con: review (but the writer didn't like the original, either)
...pro (sorta kinda): review (this writer did like the original, which in his words was "a deliciously smart and wicked re-imaging that still remained true to the purpose of fairy tales")

I'm looking forward to it. Thought the first was very fresh and original. If it is more of that then it will be good. I just hope it isn't another MiB II but the reviews seem to be good.

This may sound weird, but I won't read reviews before I go see a movie. Too many reviewers (including one that is often featured here) simply rehash the plot (and often give away crucial plot points) for 4/5 of the review and call it a review. No, that is a plot summary.

Saw it last night, and as expected, was very good. Not quite as funny as the original, but close. Puss in Boots had me in tears he was so funny in some parts. Overall, well worth seeing. The opening with
The only problem I had with it was the last song
Did they really need that as the last song? Oh well, the movie still worked very well.

I certainly loved it!
I can reveal now that I saw the movie last Saturday at a private screening for PDI/Dreamworks employees and their families.
And yes, I certainly loved this movie from the beginning to the end!! From the very good storyline (almost as good as the original), to that wildly funny Puss'n'Boots character as voiced by Antonio Banderas, parodies of G*d knows how many Hollywood movies, a truly wickedly funny parody (pun definitely intended here! ) of just about the entire Hollywood culture, and of course the great CGI animation, this movie is probably the best movie I've seen so far in 2004, no contest. And there is so much to see in this movie you want to see it at least three times to get all the jokes.

I love these "I AM SO L33T CUZ I DON'T SEE WHAT THE MASSES SEE!" circle jerks. Very amusing.
But to answer the question, yes I will be seeing the film. Mostly for my daughter, but I expect to enjoy it as well.

I'm actually in the apparent minority of NOT liking the first one. I've seen it once, and I thought it was just lazy, self-indulgent, post-modern drivel. It wasn't particularly appropriate for kids, and it wasn't funny enough to amuze an adult. I just didn't care for it, and I couldn't understand where all of the raves were coming from.
'2' looks to be more of the same (obviously). The fact that most of the reviews/interviews are highlighting the many, many 'pop culture references' in the film is enough for me to stay away. I won't even be renting this one.

Probably will see it. I thought the first was good not great but going to the movies is one of main forms of entertainment, and most of the ones that come out by me at this time of year are 100% crap, so I'll even go for the 50% crap ones, just to have something to see.

I think the fact that Shrek is becoming what it made fun of in the first film (crass Disney marketing) is really going to hurt it.
