Best TV movie?

Duel- brilliant in fact it's the only TV movie that I can watch without wanting to puke.

Nicholas Meyer's "The Day After" was also very good...in fact, I think it's still the most-watched TV movie of all time.

When Hell Was in Session (1979) - solid P.O.W. story set during the Vietnam War. Starred Hal Holbrook.

Wish it were available on DVD (or even VHS).

I never watch tv movies, but maybe 4 or 5 in my life...one with Kirstie Alley where she was a mother of a handicapped child..I think his name was Michael and that may have been in the title, but the rest I am hazy. It was pretty good. The other 2 I recall being quite good were:
Ted Danson in "Gulliver's Travel" (remake)
Armand Assante in "The Odyssey"

and of course the ultimates (for me at least)

"V:The Original Miniseries" &
"V:The Final Battle"

epics that will probably never be duplicated as events on network television!!

the British 'day after' movie released around the same time, "Threads" is also very good, and IMO superior to "The Day After"

Lonesome Dove best tv movie ever imho although, you might want to consider it a mini series. It has a wonderful performance by Robert Duvall playing Gus.

I agree. In fact, that might be Duvall's best role ever.

Yeah, I figured we were keeping mini-series out, or I would have mentioned things like "V" and HBO's "From The Earth To The Moon", among others.

That was a good one, I wish some cable channel would show it again. It seems like it was on again about 5 years ago.

Surprised noone has mentioned Dune yet. Personally I also like the TV version of The Shining but I think I'm in the minority on that one

I'd have to go with The Lathe of Heaven - original 1980 PBS version.

I enjoyed Door to Door quite a bit, with William H. Macy (mostly because he was so good in it).

Otherwise, most HBO fare is excellent (Angels in America). Band of Brothers and From the Earth to the Moon, even though they aren't considered TV movies but rather miniseries, feel more like "real" movies than a lot of the ones released into the theater.

And another vote for Dark Night of the Scarecrow. Also Don't go to Sleep is another favorite of mine from the early 80's.
