Worst Decade for Movies?

Sorry if this has been covered before, but thought it might be interesting.

So what do you all consider the worst decade for movies? This might be a bit subjective, as there are likely many who haven't seen a movie made before Pulp Fiction, but let's give it a go anyway. :)

kantboy 05-03-04 04:21 PM

90's cinema

Rivero 05-03-04 04:30 PM

No contest.

The 90's. Putrid stuff, and that's just the crap that DIDN'T try to rip-off Tarantino, an artist who made his name from ripping off others in the first place.

modfather 05-03-04 04:34 PM

There were some bad, bad movies in the 90's. But some of the sci-fi/adventure films of the 80's were absolutely criminal!

ckolchak 05-03-04 04:35 PM

the 80s was filled with tons of dreck- much of it beloved by many on this forum, but dreck nonetheless.
especially the 'big' summer movies

I'll take a cheesy ridiculous 80's action flick over a boring alt-rock infused 90's movie any day.

Damfino 05-03-04 04:39 PM

I vote for the 2000s because the seemingly endless production of bad sequels and bad remakes is already on a pace to top the 90s.

cruzness 05-03-04 04:47 PM

The 80's. The only reason it is beloved on this Forum is because of the nostalgia factor. When you think about it there were some really bad movies in the 80's.

modfather 05-03-04 04:57 PM

Yeah, I guess I can understand the nostalgia thing (to some degree), but these were just horrible movies that were mainstream releases. Although Vin Diesel movies alone may cause me to rethink my vote to 2000s. :)

RichC2 05-03-04 05:07 PM

I dunno, I can name more movies I like from the 2000s so far than I did from the 90s, and more from the 90s than I did from the 80s.. But from there it builds back up again (Save for the 1950s).

So I'll just whim it on the 80s.

90s saw a lot of regurgitation but it had some excellent stuff thrown in there. And the 2000s house some of my favorite movies (Mulholland Drive, Memento come to mind).

Rival11 05-03-04 05:09 PM

Damn, The 90's??? How about the 80's folks?? Easily the worst.

Damn, you said the 90's???

whynotsmile 05-03-04 05:15 PM

the 80s were a horrible. cept for the john hughes movies

antennaball 05-03-04 05:18 PM

I went with the 80's. Not too many classics coming out of that decade.

modfather 05-03-04 05:29 PM

I guess to be totally fair, it'd be hard to vote for the 50's or 40's (or earlier), since most of us weren't going to the movies back then. So maybe this poll should actually be: "Taking the best movies from each decade, which is the weakest decade?" Seem reasonable?

Taking the best movies from each decade the '80s didn't have enough quality movies in it to save itself.

Sure there's crap in every decade. We only reguard the '30s, '40s, and '60s so much because these days people ONLY watch the BEST films from those decades and don't bother with the crap. But taking only the BEST films of the '80s puts it firmly in last place

davidlynchfan 05-03-04 05:44 PM

90s. especially early 90s.

MSD 05-03-04 06:14 PM

90's for sure, the 80's had some classics at least.

Such as? I'm having a tough time thinking of some... :)

Get Me Coffee 05-03-04 06:32 PM

What the hell ever came out to the 60's?

lets see
raiders, empire, fast times, porky's (alright not porky's), wall street, goonies, blade runner

modfather 05-03-04 06:59 PM

Out of those, I'd give credit to:

Raiders
Blade Runner
Wall Street (maybe)

as movies that stand the test of time (maybe Empire). Goonies, Porky's, and Fast Times are all a product of their "coolness" or nostalgiac values. Wall Street (to me) almost falls into a piece that represents the 80's, but is it a movie that people will be talking about 20 years from now? However, I think Platoon is...

The further back you go, the more people forget about the crap that was produced and only remember the good stuff. It's like music from the 60s, everyone only remembers The Beatles and Stones, people don't think "Yummy, Yummy, Yummy, I Got Love in my Tummy". Every decade had or has its share of crap and every decade has its share of good stuff.

Get Me Coffee 05-03-04 07:20 PM

Here, here,

There is a TPM in every decade, not just the 90's. Mesa think

wendersfan 05-03-04 07:20 PM

The 80s were pretty crappy, but this decade is shaping up to be even worse.
