Janis Joplin biopic

I seriously don't know what goes through Hollywood execs heads...

tvguide.com

Renée Zellweger has signed on to star in and produce Piece of My Heart, a big-screen biopic on late rocker Janis Joplin. Filming is expected to get underway in early 2004 after Zellweger wraps the sequel to Bridget Jones's Diary.

Jackskeleton 06-20-03 12:52 PM

She has the look.. somewhat.

The Antipodean 06-20-03 01:08 PM

If she gets nekkid like Joplin, I'm there.

jfoobar 06-20-03 01:16 PM

Guess she'll have an excuse to keep up with the 20 doughnuts per day diet a bit longer.

Brain Stew 06-20-03 01:57 PM

Hmm, if I remember correctly Joplin was bi-sexual.... :o

PalmerJoss 06-20-03 02:05 PM

Well, Renee would be a good choice if they wanted somebody who looked nothing like Janis Joplin.

Mission: Accomplished ;)

I guess being a producer has its benefits..?

DeputyDave 06-20-03 02:31 PM

My god.... choke! I am speechless.

Neeb 06-20-03 05:53 PM

Has, 'Gimme Oscar' all over it.

Giantrobo 06-20-03 07:23 PM

Well. they's both white, plumpish, and from Texas so why not?

mwj 06-20-03 07:33 PM

Can Renee sing or did they dub her in Chicago? This is a movie that just seems like a bad idea. Do a lot of people want a Joplin movie?

McHawkson 06-20-03 08:51 PM

Who is.... Janis Joplin?

A great singer from back in "The Day"(Woodstock Era?). She died a few days before my B-day.

Crap. Hollywood strikes again.

Mellissa Etheridge wouldve made an interesting janis, had she done this movie years ago when she wanted to.

Keep up those doughnuts, renee. And after you're done with the films, still keep it up.

Sepen 06-21-03 12:40 PM

I am out of the loop on this one, would someone please explain the doughnuts to me?

Renee's on a powerdiet to raise her weight from 55lbs to 95lbs [for the sequel to Bridget Jones' Diary] by eating doughnuts.

...She'll have to go from doughnuts to Jack Daniel's. That was Ms. Joplin's drink of choice.

PS I CAN'T see Renee pulling this off...Her face is all wrong!.

Joplin is my absolute favorite female singer, so I'm moderately interested in this, though it does smell like a vanity project for Zellweger. Maybe if Cameron Crowe was directing.
