The Day After Tomorrow : Who is going to see this?

http://www.apple.com/trailers/fox/dayaftertomorrow/

I just saw the trailer and it looks pretty awesome. Any movie where you can see a Catagory 5 tornado rip thru the Hollywood Sign and downtown Los Angeles, is a movie that I want to see. It opens May 28, 2004.

Plot Summary for
Day After Tomorrow, The (2004)

This movie takes a big-budget, special-effects-filled look at what the world would look like if the greenhouse effect and global warming continued at such levels that they resulted in worldwide catastrophe and disaster, including multiple hurricanes, tornadoes, earthquakes (I don't quite get the science of that one), tidal waves, floods and the beginning of the next Ice Age. At the center of the story is a paleoclimatologist (a scientist who studies the ways weather patterns changed in the past), Professor Adrian Hall (Quaid), who tries to save the world from the effects of global warming while also trying to get to his son, Sam (Gyllenhaal), who was in New York City as part of a scholastic competition, when the city was overwhelmed by the chilling beginnings of the new Ice Age. In addition to all of the other challenges Dr. Hall faces, he's also going against the flow as humanity races south to warmer climes, and he's nearly the only one going north... (Rossum plays another student, and Gyllenhaal's romantic interest; Ward plays Quaid's wife and Gyllenhaal's mother; Serrano plays Quaid's boss)

I did a search for 'after' and 'tomorrow' and didn't see a thread for this movie.

I can tell you who is not going to see this. . . . . . . . me. I can't stand these CGI disaster movies. I didn't see a thing in the trailer that looked even slightly original or entertaining. The same goes for the cast. Although it's got Donnie Darko in it, but I haven't like him in anything but that one role.

I'm there. I'm a nut for over the top disaster movies. I'm even looking forward to the earthquake movie on NBC next month.

I'm definately there. I love these destroy everything you can movies, even with their goofy cheese. And Emmerich...though not much of a good director, there is one thing he can do...make things look cool while getting destroyed. I watched godzilla the other day, and even that movie had some quality destruction. Too bad the rest was so...agh bad.

But I'm up for this...

Sorry, I hate repeating threads. Today was the first day that I had heard about the movie and doing the search yielded dozens of hits, but I didn't go back as far as April 6th. I just ASSuMEd!

I'll be there, opening day I'm sure. I'm looking forward to a disaster driven, special effects laden, exspensive epic. Plus, the trailers, I thought were really cool. I love the new trailer where you hear birds flying away even before you see anything on screen.

In the search, I searched for the words "after tomorrow" and only in the movie forum and only in thread titles and set it to any date - only pulled up 12 results - 5 relevant. I'm sure there were a few more threads about it with a title like "new disaster movie" or some such thing. Just a friendly tip.

Son of a..... What is it about this movie title, that there are 6 different posts in a 5 month period? I'm usually very good about searching before I post. It must be my advancing old age. I just turned 43!

I will see it for sure. About time Dennis Quaid is in a blockbuster. (unless you consider Jaws 3-D a blockbuster)

looks like a very fun popcorn movie, and with Emmerich at the helm, I'm sure it'll deliver. I'm there opening day!

Of course they can't kill a dog. Dogs are immune from getting killed in any disaster movie. Volcano, Dante's Peak, ID4 had some pretty bad situations and the dog gets away nice and safe.

My friends have a theory that (in ID4) if someone was on top of the Empire State Building and held up a poodle when the alienship fired, the beam would richochet back up and destroy the alien ship.

Ooh, I love that. I always clap when the dog escapes death, even if thousands of people are being incinerated behind him. Yay for dogs!

I'll definitely be seeing this. I have a strange affinity for movies that show huge tidal waves. Why is that?
