Damn Girl Next Door is bombing at the BO
I guess Christ trumps a former pornstar this weekend. I guess I'll be waiting for this to go to the dollar movies.

as being talked about in the friday box office thread. yeah, it's a crowded weekend. No clear focus and two films that were pushed back some time. ouch
|
Going up against The Passion on Good Friday is not good.
|
I'd say Disney is probably more worried about the $100 million dollar Alamo bombing than Fox is about a low budget sex comedy that will easily recoup its budget once it hits video and cable.
Warner is probably kicking themselves over making The Whole Ten Yards, a sequel no one seemed to be clamoring for. You think they would have learned when their last comedy sequel, Analyze That, tanked. Hollywood needs to stop making sequels that do not have large fanbases or whose first movie was more of a marketing thing than an actual good film. See also: Angels, Charlie's, and Raider, Tomb. |
I'm sure Warner was just trying to cash in on the friends franchise while it was still hot.
|
4 major movies open in one day and split the crowds fairly evenly... 3 comedies - whole 10 yards, Girl next door, and ella enchanted and one action drama - alamo. If you add up all the take of the 3 comedies, you would have enough to squash Passion... it was just a bad idea to release all of these on the same day and on Good Friday against Passion. Oh well.

I don't know much about the story of this film, other than Elisha Cuthbert is playing a porn star or something. The previews did not leave me wanting to see it, especially since I am pretty sure she didn't did any nudity.
Nudity = more box office |
Funny thing is that if you look at the numbers on a per screen average, TPOTC is getting its butt whupped by "Johnson Family Vacation."
|
Hopefully it'll go quick to DVD.

VACATION did well, which is nice to see - regardless of quality. Maybe this success and NEVER DIE ALONE's semi-failure will get us out from under all the thugged out crap lately. Who knows... |
Originally posted by RyoHazuki A movie in its sixth week only grossing 1,300 less per screen than a movie in its first week isnt exactly a butt whuppin. |
With Kill Bill VOl. 2, Mean Girls, Punisher, and Van Helsing all coming out in less than a month I'm sure Girl Next Door will die quickly.
|
Next week alone will most likely be the death of it.

Originally posted by Nosebleed Fine with me, that will just mean that it comes to video quicker. Hopefully the director can still do the special edition with a lot of Elisha Cuthbert nudity. |
I was actually going to say what every one else said. Bring on the DVD already! With a little luck, it will be out before the end of this summer.
|
a shame, cause it's a really good comedy and a lot of fun to watch; timing was all off; they should have released it earlier instead of all the test screenings, etc
kill bill 2 will kill ALL next friday |
It's too bad. It has been getting good word of mouth, plus I heard Elisha on Loveline last week and she really wanted it to do well.
For those that get the delayed LL you might want to check it out tonight. The best part is how Adam is flirting with her and at one point she totally shoots him down because he is too old. |
I want to see Girl Next Door, but it's definitely a "wait for the DVD" movie for me. Looks like I'm not alone about this.
|
is there any way to listen to old loveline broadcasts? are there websites which have online archives of radio shows? it'd be funny to see carolla getting shot down; what exactly did he say?
|
If you check out this site it has info on how to download the show. I don't know the exact legalities, but I know the show is aware of it and Anderson posted in the forum a few times. You can also get the show from alt.binaries.great if you do newsgroups.
As far as what happened. Basically Adam has been drooling over Elisha all week because he saw a screening of the movie. She comes in and he's doing his normal charming flirting with a hot chick. About an hour or so in he's talking about how great she is, and how she likes him and if he wasn't married they could go on a date. Drew is like "no way" and Adam says to her "You'd go out with a guy like me right?" and there is about 5 seconds of dead air. Adam is like "oh..that hurts" and Elisha says it doesn't mean anything about him though. Drew then says it would be weird for her to be attracted to someone that much older and Adam says it's not an age thing. At that point Elisha does a kinda "uhhh" meaning well, yeah. Drew says it's healthy again and Adam gets a bit defensive and calls him a jackass (but in a playful way). Overall it was funny, and a bit uncomfortable. But I'm glad Elisha didn't do the normal hot chick thing and pretend she liked him. |
I think the best part of the movie was on the mature forum a few months back.

So, a better title for this thread would be:
"The Girl Next Door Goes Down!" |
I ended up seeing this one 2x this weekend (Friday in one town with one group of friends and Sat in another town with another group of friends) and must say that this is a movie that grew a lot on me.
It's totally different from what the trailers let on, and totally different in a very good way. I thought it was funny, entertaining, and portrayed a good message all at the same time. Here's a good interview with the director (And yes, a Director's Cut will be on the DVD :) ) http://hollywoodbitchslap.com/feature.php?feature=1020 It was definitely a DVD keeper that I'll get when it comes out. |
