Anyone A collector of Signed Photo's

I've recently started to collect movie star's signed photo's and was wondering if any of you do the same and who do you have.
I got:

Robert De Niro : Casino
Adam Sandler: Waterboy
Vigo Mortenson: LOTR
Tobey Maguire : Spider-Man
Tom Cruise: The Last Samurai
Sean William Scott: American Wedding
Michael J Fox: BTTF 2
Eddie Murphy: The Haunted Mansion.

At the moment I'm looking for a good Halle Berry and Keira Knightley one.

I also have Tracy Mcgrady and Juwan Howard from Orlando Magic.

Post pics if you can

yeah, i have a bunch... most of which I got signed via the mail back in my auto collecting days. Some of the stuff u get via mail is auto-penned... or secratary signed... but thanks to the power of the internet, its easy to compare what you got with what someone else got in person (and scanned/posted). Anyway, Ive got tons of em... including almost every character from Heat. I sent a super nice request letter to Danny Trejo trying to get a 3x5 card signed (for a Heat movie poster + auto display I was putting together) and the guy sent back 2 card, a 8x10 photo (signed) and a 1 page handwritten letter telling me how much he appreciated having me as a fan etc etc. Pretty damn cool!

Mira Sorvino wrote a short paragraph on the photo she sent me as well, that rocked.

Funniest: Anna Nicole Smith (before her reality show) sent me a pic and on the back of the SASE that I sent she wrote something like "you're so hot!". lol!!!! guess she liked my picture too.

Hardest ones Ive got were: Kirk Douglas (after he quit signing... i guess the pic of myself in marine dress uniform worked!) and Sir Alec Guiness (after he quit signing for non-Brits).

collecting via mail is pretty fun... these things come back to you like christmas presents. Sometimes the auto is fake, sometimes you never see your pic/cards again... but every once in a while you get something back and its really cool.

i've got several from my old days of through-the-mail stuff. i usually avoided the bigger names, though since i didn't want a bunch of secretarials. i received nice letters from people like James Rebhorn and Frances Sternhagen.

probably the biggest name that is supposedly authentic is Robin Williams.

I only get posters of films that influence me signed by the directors.

A Better Tomorrow - John Woo
Clerks - Kevin Smith
Lethal Weapon - Richard Donner
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas - Terry Gilliam (I didn't have a Fisher King poster)

I have a bunch of these - although I stopped collecting once I graduated college.

My most memorable reply was from Patrick Stewart - whom I wrote shortly after he was signed to do TNG (before episodes even aired). The man not only sent me an autographed photo, but a personal letter as well. Class act.

Soap opera stars (I used to be a big General Hospital fan) are also good for sending personalized letters...especially if they are new to the show.

"Big name" celebs usually just send you an "auto penned" one - and often nothing at all. Michael Keaton was nice enough to personalize an autograph for me, as was Brent Spiner from Star Trek. Most of my other personlized ones were from meeting the celeb in person, rather than through the mail.

This was all before the internet hit it big though...I'm guessing most celebs have people assigned for a mail-answering service with a stack of pre-signed autographs now. And I'm sure more than ever, that most don't bother to respond at all.

Off-topic nitpick: You collect photos, not photo's.

On-topic: I don't collect signed movie photos, but I do have a few signed by TV/sports stars:

- A personalized Simpson's drawing signed by Matt Groening
- A signed photo of Jerry Seinfeld
- Several signed photos of Walter Payton
- A signed photo of Dave Coulier, of Full House fame

I too have several signed photos that I got through the mail. A few letters were written to me as well (Kevin Spacey, John Landis, Matthew McConaughey, to name a few). My favorite signed photo is Jimmy Stewart - I got it in the mail 2 weeks before he passed away.

Good post- I was actually was gonna ask if anyone knows how to unload these for some cash. I used to do the snail mail, in person (am in Chicago so there is always someone here to ask for autographs) and in store appearances. I stopped doing in when I got into college, so I have quite a few of them. MAny real, many secretarials, autopen, but also quite a few speacial ones. My most favorite (at the moment) is an accidental one...was at Kmart quite a few years back and Martha Stewart was in store doing a signing for something...so I got in line and she personalized it...I remember she looked a bit older in person, but overall very gracious, reserved, direct lady. I am not afan by any means, have not seen her show once, but I just find it amusing that I have this (friends love to joke about this when we're out at the bars).

Also, some of my favorite ones are from when I met Sit Anthony Hopkins, the through the mail personalized Kenneth Branagh, Demi Moore (her non-acting days), 3X5 card from Newman, Redford and Ralph Fiennes and my absolute favorite from a a long, long time ago, Gillian Anderson. I also loved doing the concert thing where you would wait like a lunatic for only a glimpse of the artist to sign something for you...not even a chance to say thanks...Elton John and Eric Clapton signed my pics though their assistants backstage and Sade was the most gracious of them all, very, very classy lady.

Good memories, but they're also collecting dust and I need some cash at the moment. If anyone has any ideas, post or email me ([email protected]).

I forgot to mention that one of my favorites is one that I got recently. My friend works at a theater and they were throwing away an entire package of the 14x20 "Catch Me if You Can" posters. he rescued them for no real reason and we were trying to figure out what to do with them.

I happened to be surfing the web the next day and I ran across Frank Abagnale's website. On a whim, I sent an e-mail asking if Mr. Abagnale would autograph a couple of posters for myself and my friend if we sent them with the appropriate return postage. His assistant quickly responded, said yes, gave me the address to best reach him at, and told us not to worry about the return postage, they would cover it.

About one week after we sent it, we got them back beautfully signed and inscribed to us. Felt totally cool to get that kind of response and made me miss the old days when i was collecting.

I don't collect autographs, but I have a photo of Mr. T signed personally to me from when I met him at E3. I don't know where it is right now - in a box somewhere or in a pile of magazines or something in a closet. I also have a Todd McFarlane "Ash" from Evil Dead "doll" thing and Bruce Campbell signed the box for me... I was thinkin about having Todd sign it also since he lives around here I think. Other than that I don't like to ask for autographs.

I only have 3, behind the scene type photos from Dances with Wolves. One has Kevin Costner directing, another with Rodney A. Grant, and one with Wes Studi & Robert Pastorelli. The last one has both men laughing, arm in arm with
Spoiler:
Patorelli 'stuck' with several arrows
(only signed by Studi though).
