profanity in 13 Days?
 

I know this seems like a strange question, but how bad is the language in 13 Days? I haven't seen it for awhile, and I was thinking of showing it to my history class (11th grade) while I'm gone. Is the swearing frequent, and how "strong" is it?

its not too bad (there's one f word and a few s words, but nothing they have never heard before. its not every other word (it is pg13). even though it has the dreaded f word, since they are likely 16 or 17 they should be allowed to watch it with no problem with parents

Thirteen Days is a great movie by the way. It's more acurate than most hollywood historical portrayals and it's very well made.

...erm... 11th grade... would that mean the "kids" in your class are 16/17 years old...?... which makes them (almost) old enough to go and watch NC17 movies - and you worry about a few f- and/or a-words etc. here and there...?...

Back when I was in high school you couldn't show any movies past G-rated, even if the entire class was 17/18 years old. If a movie was PG or PG-13 the entire class had to have permission slips signed by their parents to screen the film. R-rated movies can't even be shown. Those were county (state?)-wide rules I believe.

I know ... you would think there would be no problem showing a PG-13 movie to a bunch of 17 year olds, but believe me, there is. Even if I show it, I'll have to get them to sign permission slips, and R movies are out of the question. Those have to be approved by the school board.

I'm not a teacher, but if I were I would screen all movies personally before I screened them for a class.

I always watch movies before I show them to see if they're worthwhile. I've seen this one - it was just years ago. I just wanted to find out about the language on this one to see if it was even worth considering to show. Judging from the language mentioned above, I doubt if I can show it. I teach in a pretty conservative town, so I'm pretty limited. I'd love to show parts of Band of Brothers, but that's out of the question.

Wow... I went to a Catholic Highschool and we watched EVERYTHING. Schindler's List, Drugstore Cowboy, The Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile, Dead Man Walking... They didn't care too much about the swearing, it was moreso the nudity that wasn't allowed.

Besides, we weren't going to complain. Movie days in highschool were always the best. That way you didn't have to do anything but sit there and watch (or sleep).

hey we were allowed to watch an r rated movie in high school (and saw some boobs in a pg13 movie also)

One of my highlights was when the teacher showed us 1984 in class. The teacher meant to fast-forward through the full-frontal nudity shot but didn't go far enough.

I remember only being able to watch G rated movies through middle school, but got to watch PG-13 movie in high school. My senior government teacher showed us Dave and The American President (I know for a fact the f-word is uttered at least 3-4 times in the latter).

I would check with other teachers or the union.. last thing you need is showing a movie and having some parent freak out over the f*** word and sue you and the school... might need to do permission slips just as a cya
