best part 1 of a trilogy?

boy this is a hard one, since all of the movies are classics, but i went with raiders of the lost ark

FuzzyBallz 03-29-04 09:55 AM

Matrix was a real break through from all the other movies. Unless of course you're a hater and thinks Matrix derived from some B movie.

mookiemeister 03-29-04 10:11 AM

I pick Back to the Future. But Matrix is pretty good pick too.

AgtFox 03-29-04 10:59 AM

There should really be only 3 choices here:

Back to the Future
Raiders of the Lost Ark
Matrix

All 3 did not have another movie in the trilogy better in many people's opinions.

Blue would be the only other one, although I wonder how many people have actually seen these movies.

Rypro 525 03-29-04 11:04 AM

ive seen all of them except for blue.

neiname 03-29-04 11:05 AM

Raiders

KyleJBre_et 03-29-04 11:09 AM

Had to pick my favorite movie of all time: Back to the Future.

Shannon Nutt 03-29-04 11:18 AM

Star Wars - simply because nothing like it had ever been seen on a movie screen before it came out. It changed movies forever.

Simpson Purist 03-29-04 11:59 AM

Da Godfather!

sataniko 03-29-04 12:29 PM

The Godfather followed by The Terminator

B.A. 03-29-04 12:32 PM

The Fellowship of the Ring

Tommy_Harn 03-29-04 12:35 PM

Can I just have my preferences set to vote for the Godfather every time one of these polls starts?

BassDude 03-29-04 12:35 PM

Clicked on the thread with the intention of selecting Star Wars: A New Hope, but went with The Matrix. Both films were ground breaking, but in many ways The Empire Strikes Back was better than the first film, whereas The Matrix trilogy dropped off quite a bit with the remaining films. (IMHO of course)

Lastly, it came down to what I would reccomend. I would tell anyone who hasn't seen the Star Wars trilogy (yeah...like who?) to see them all. I'd tell some folks to just watch the first of the Matrix trilogy.

Toss-up between Raiders and BTTF.

Pants 03-29-04 12:43 PM

I always find it very funny that Keislowski's Three Colors Trilogy is always grouped in with all these big budget spectacles and comic book films.

talemyn 03-29-04 12:58 PM

I have to say that I am really surprised at how many picks have been made over The Godfather. Not syaing that people don't have the right to do so, I just didn't expect to see it in such numbers.

Also, it sounds like some people maybe voting on impact instead of quality. Was that the intention or does the OP care either way?

smirnoff 03-29-04 01:19 PM

other. Jurrasic Park

Ha, I think we just needed something a little more high brow on these lists. I mean, the three color trilogy isn't really even the same type of story continuation like all the other trilogies, so I'm not even sure why we bother comparing it.

Nonetheless, I'll lodge my vote with Raiders of the Lost Ark. There's just nuttin wrong with that movie. It kicks ass.

And to this day...I still don't see why The Matrix is so great. Damn fine action film, set some trends, I just wish I could see why it's heralded heads and tails above its sequels. I always thought it had the same flat acting and goofy dramatics that the sequels did, just better pacing. I like the movie, I just want some enlightenment...

island007 03-29-04 02:19 PM

The Godfather

Morf 03-29-04 02:44 PM

Best part one when compared to the last 2 parts: The Matrix.

matome 03-29-04 03:11 PM

Matrix

Jackskeleton 03-29-04 03:13 PM

Matrix. My god the other two parts were crappy.

 Was taken on my sixth birthday (8/22/77) to see it and nothing has come close since. It's not that I refuse to accept anything as better because I am not a fanboy, but it would be hard for anything to top that experience.

Tom Banjo 03-29-04 04:04 PM

I gotta go with BTTF on this one.

Saxofonix 03-29-04 04:30 PM

my instinctive answer on reading the thread's title .. Blue - Three Colours

.. although I can whole-heartedly relate to this ..

.. but of the big-budget movies, I'd say that Matrix is the best 1st part of a trilogy.
