Dawn of the Dead was better, although I liked Wrong Turn and 28 Days later better than both TCM and DOTD.

Where's the option for "Both sucked ass!" ?

Uh, what movie were you watching?

Maybe you left to take a piss during the scene where
Spoiler:
a girl is sliced in half with a chainsaw
This was one of the goriest movies I've seen in the theater.

I voted for DOTD, though I havent seen TCM 03.

DOTD Started off ok but then it all got boring and pathetic really. The bit with wife and child was so stupid. There wasn't that much gore either, the only really gory bit was with the chainsaw.

TCM was a far superior film mainly because it was dark and had the right tone not to mention the greatest mad man ever created.

Dawn was far superior to TCM in my opinion,if for the fact that it did not fall into the standard cliched Hollywood horror trap,Miramax & others always stick to-ie big star=no chance of getting hurt or killed=lack of suspence & tension in the end.

So the final half of TCM really bored me,despite being pretty good & grisly up until then. I just knew Jessica Biel would not be in any real danger of being killed,or injured..& the endless chase went on forever. I was bored by then.

Now had they had the balls to do their own take on the dinner sequence & really drive Biel over the edge into hysterics & being traumatized by the experiance, rather than 'stronger' in the end. I would have felt it was a good movie overall, with a gutsy ending.

Which brings me to Dawn, loved every moment of the film from the opening frames,to the final end credits roll. It kept my attention & interest, never bored me. Had a nice apocalyptic hopeless feel..& the ending, truely nice to see a studio film go for broke in this day & age!!

Ok, I don't understand the hatred of TCM. I thought it was a good, dark, miserable horror movie...noisy, violent, atmosperhic, bad tempered, and Jessica Biel looks hot wet. Good stuff in my opinion. But I never loved the original, so I guess that helped.

Now DoTD, better than above...but I'll take zombies over slasher flicks anyday. Solid stuff. But the original Dawn tops all these flicks, imo.

I agree on all accounts. I never loved the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre (in fact, I'd go so far as to say I hold a strong disliking for the film), and while I certainly don't think that Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2003 is a great film, I do think its balls get busted just for being a remake.

That said, I still find Dawn of the Dead to be the better film. For me, I think it's a closer call than for most folks. I have little patience for ridiculously stupid characters, and that was just about every character in the Dawn remake.

1. Dawn of the Dead 2004 8.5/10
2. Wrong Turn 7/10
3. Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2003 6/10
4. Dawn of the Dead - original 6/10
5. Texas Chainsaw Massacre - original 5.5/10
6. Rob Zombie movie House of 1000 Corpses 5/10
7. Cutthroat Island & Wing Commander 0/10

Had to rethink my listing here and drop House down to 6 because I watched it last night and it sucked alot worse than I remembered it sucking. It's difficult to judge because the whole 'inbred crazy serial killers in the backwoods' thing is such a terrible idea for a movie anyway. First off, you have little chance of actually having someone likeable in the film - and if you don't like anyone in the film, it can become boring really quickly. Second, it just lends itself to being miserable the entire time... scenes of torture and mutilation and filth and smells - it's not something artsy like taking something beautiful and making it ugly... it's just taking a normal stupid person and farking up their day. Zombie movies (and not rob zombie movies) are capable of being fun and funny... so on premise alone, zombie movies will beat out chainsaw massacre films. Although TCM 2 and 3 were kinda fun.

Ok, I finally watched the remake of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Having seen the remake of Dawn of the Dead last weekend and now this, the edge goes to Dawn of the Dead. While both were disappointing in their own right, Dawn of the Dead was a better film, IMO.
