San Francisco Int'l Film Festival 2004

I've been awaiting this year's festival eagerly and they've finally announced the selections: http://sffs.org/fest04/index.html

Unfortunately, no Zatoichi which I was hoping for. And, the ticket prices have gone up so I'm going to have to limit myself.

Right now my short list is:
Doppelganger (K. Kurosawa)
Five Obstructions (Von Trier, Leth)
Goodbye, Dragon Inn (Tsai)
In the Company of Men (Desplechin)
Reconstruction (Boe)
That Day (Ruiz)
Triple Agent (Rohmer)
Vibrator (Hiroki)

A couple I'm putting off because I'll have other opportunities to see them, like Supersize Me and The Saddest Music in the World for example.

Anyone else on these boards going to the festival?

I went a few years back. I'm tempted to go back for the Von Trier and Kurosawa flicks.

Saw the trailer for Carandiru yesterday afternoon- wow! cant wait to see it.

Grimm - very odd but very entertaining.

Green Butchers - think Sweeny Todd meets Little Shop of Horrors (sans the giant alien plant) - it's a gas. Recommended

Handcuff King - bittersweet drama, that is both simplistic and touching.

Five Obstructions - opens for a week here in DC at the AFI - number one movie of the weekend I am dying to see. Retrospect at AFI also includes 'The Kingdom' all eight hours.

Super Size Me sounds insanely outrageouse - eating all my meals at MacDonald's sounds like a one way ticket to a heart attack.

El Alamein: The Line of Fire - the depiction and realism of the brotherhood of man through war is the theme basis to this tragic 'war' film. Very good.

This Little Life - Ending spoiler:
Spoiler:
Hate to admit this, but this was the most recent film where I broke down and cried - painfully sad
.

I have read that The Mother is also an excellent film, I think Sony Classics is releasing this - release date: ?
