'Troy' Full Trailer up!
|
Greek mythology was a passion of mine as a child . . . I can't wait for this to come out. http://www.mindspring.com/~boycekb/i...HappyDance.gif
|
I'm watching it. Although I think Orlando Bloom is a bit weak of an actor compared to the rest of the cast. Should be nice entertainment.
Getting kind of sick of Blonde' Helens though...need someone more "exotic" less Nordic if you know what I mean |
Looks sweet :)

I hate every ape I see, from chimpan-a to chimpan-z. |
nice! got goosebumps imagining this on the imax screen.

Looks fantastic.
|
anyone know who the blonde is? Hear if its R rated, she's does a nude scene.

Guys, guys, guys:
30 Helens Agree: A Helen is a Helen |
I can't say that trailer makes me want to see it.
|
I saw this trailer on the big screen...and the quicktime on the computer doesn't do it justice. This movie looks amazing. The production values are fantastic and the story is compelling. The battles that we get a brief glimpse of in the trailer look spectacular... and in all honesty, look like they could rival LOTR (again, this is just from the trailer, but that one arial shot of the two armys starting to fight has me breathless....and all the ships on the water...my God!)
I hope Wolfgang Peterson does not disappoint. MATT |
didn't know that the trojans spoke with slight british accents.
|
Looks good. I thought the teaser made it look like one of those History Channel movies.
|
I saw it before Secret Window and it looks great, but dreamy orlando bloom looks a little light in the loafers. It's got a solid cast too, him (I think he's a good actor), bradd pitt, eric bana and of course Brian Cox. Can't wait to see it!
|
the film is offically R rated.
Troy (2004) Warner Bros. Pictures Inc. R Rated R for graphic violence and some sexuality/nudity. |
looks alright, but its oddly cast. Bloom and Pitt and especially the girl who plays helen just seems odd int he movie.

Is there going to be an IMAX print or will it just be a blown up 35MM? The only two WB films that will get IMAX DMR prints this summer belong to the third Harry Potter film and Catwoman. |

Awe Yeah !

Why would they waste an IMAX on Catwoman?
Saw the trailer and while it looks impressive and entertaining, it also reeks of Hollywood vanity. Brad Pitt is not playing Ulysses, he is playing Brad Pitt getting paid X-million dollars to act like Joe Black acting like Russell Crowe. Furthermore, Orlando Bloom is not convincing in the slightest with his portrayal of...who is he again? My history is a little shabby. Oh well, being a Wolfgang Peterson movie means it will have its focus upon visuals and not story. And hey, an R rating pretty much guarantees this to be a classic guy flick for the ages, so I'll try to hit it opening night if possible. |

It looks ok even with a few stars I could care less about. Eric Bana is the only one of the bunch I want to see.
The pan across the battlefield toward the end was kinda funny. I swear that some of the CGI soldiers on the right were running and almost throwing themselves at their opponents. Not sure if that was supposed to be that way but it seemed odd. |
Pitt rarely disappoints. I anxiously look forward to this.

As for a summary of Homer's Illiad, here's a link to one: http://members.valley.net/~benj/iliadsummary.html |
Originally posted by dhmac Brad Pitt is playing Achilles; Orlando Bloom is playing Paris; Eric Bana is Hector; and Sean Bean is Odysseus (aka Ulysses). As for a summary of Homer's Illiad, here's a link to one: http://members.valley.net/~benj/iliadsummary.html This movie will have Legolas and Boromir? Cool! In all honesty, the fact that Helen would fall for a guy looking as light in the loafers as Bloom makes me laugh. |

I wonder if this movie will have any divine intervention by Zeus and Co. or if maybe it's just a straight out war movie in which the gods are just mentioned? According to "history", Zeus and Co. played a major part in both the war's start and end.
I am only interested because they will have a hard time explaining some stuff (like the Achilles heel situation and the fate of the man who warned against the horse) without the gods. |

I think it could work without the Gods, but there would have to be some work around. |

According to "history", Zeus and Co. played a major part in both the war's start and end. I could see this movie going either direction though. While the movie would be more "mythically" accurate if they included the Gods in, I'd imagine that they could play it without the Gods fairly easily and effectively as well (e.g., Achilles is just and awesome warrior, etc.). From my view as a love of mythology, i'd like to see the gods included, but as a fan of historically-based, epic-style, war movies, part of me would like to see it without the Gods (to make it a little more "real"). It will be complex enough as it is, adding the super natural aspect might put it over the top. |
Originally posted by talemyn Yeah . . . according to the mythology, the gods were severely split on this war with half supporting the Greeks and the other half supporting the Trojans. I also imagine that if they wanted to put in the gods they would also have to work in some creatures here and there, and that would add to what looks like an already huge budget. I'm just interested to see how the war really begins since the mythology basically traces it to three goddesses bickering over who looks the best. They will also have to find a way of explaining Achilles' invinicibility without the river of Styx ordeal. What's really interesting about the two poems/works of Homer is that The Iliad is mostly a tale of war with some fantasy elements while The Odyssey is almost entirely fantasy. I wonder if this movie does well enough if WB would greenlight a take on The Odyssey? |
Wasn't it stated already (and I believe this was discussed in an earlier thread relating to this movie) that there would be no gods in this movie? Anyhoo, despite a cast I really like and a very good director, I'm still not excited about this movie. It still looks kinda iffy to me.
