Why haven't more people mentioned Planet of the Apes?

I'm gonna say LOTR: The Return of the King. Seeing it the first time, and knowing that in the book there were SIX whole chapters still left after the actual destruction of the Ring, I was half expecting Jackson to compress the aftermath and ending of the story into a tight five minutes. Thankfully he let the ending play out at it's appropriate length and pace, including the bit part I was sure he was going to leave out, "Well, I'm back", the final words of the novel.

Well done, Jackson

Which ending are you referring to?

For me, it's Silence of the Lambs. This past year, Mystic River had a cool ending. I guess I just love those endings that don't wrap everything up for the audience...

...Oh yeah. And SE7EN.

Rushmore pulled off the best happy ending that I remember having seen.

Crocker Jarmen 03-15-04 09:14 AM

My favorite ending to any movie has to be City of Woman.
Spoiler:
Where he is finally rewarded with the image of 'the perfect woman' in the form of a hot air balloon to take him to safety. As he's flying off, a group of militants come out and start machine gunning the balloon. He stares up at the perfect woman, which because of the air escasping from the bullet holes, is now distorting, turning into a terrible monster that's coming down to get him as he falls to his death.

It was funny, shocking, visually engaging. I think it's the best ending I've seen to any movie.

Michael Corvin 03-15-04 10:17 AM

Braveheart, Dead Poet's Society.
