best Morgan Freeman performance?

not the best film he was in, but the best performance he's given.

Groucho 03-14-04 08:47 PM

"Easy Reader"

Gyno Rhino 03-14-04 08:56 PM

He "was" Red.

Shawshank seemed like it had been written for him.

Sunday Morning 03-14-04 09:15 PM

The one where he plays a world-weary and always wise man.

Tony Dvdfan 03-14-04 10:13 PM

I voted for Shawshank, but it was a tough choice over Lean on Me.

FiveO 03-14-04 10:16 PM

I voted for Se7en....but I really enjoyed him as Red in Shawshank.

Hokeyboy 03-14-04 10:19 PM

I voted other. If it were included in the poll, I (much like Groucho) would have voted for 'Black Guy on The Electric Company'...

HEY YOU GUYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYSSSSSSS!

We're gonna turn it on!
We're gonna give you the power...

shizawn 03-14-04 10:30 PM

Probably Red in "Shawshank Redemption"

He was really good in Unforgiven. I voted for that, though Shawshank is right up there.

Wish I'd thought of that joke. :(

RyoHazuki 03-14-04 11:06 PM

I'm having trouble deciding between the first five poll options.

eedoon 03-14-04 11:32 PM

Between The Shawshank Redemption, Driving Miss Daisy, and Glory. Can't make up my mind between these three.

fumanstan 03-14-04 11:47 PM

Voted for Shawshank.

I didn't catch the reference, Rusty.

Voted for Shawshank. Thought he was excellent in Se7en also.

Mondo Kane 03-15-04 12:12 AM

Lean on Me!

"They used to call me Crazy Joe. Well now they can call me Batman!"

dcprules 03-15-04 12:41 AM

I picked Shawshank, but I had forgotten how many great movies Morgan Freeman has been in. For so long every movie he was in was practically a classic. I hope he gets back into the swing of things soon.

Shannon Nutt 03-15-04 04:48 AM

Someone once said that Freeman understands the "importance of stillness" in his movies, and I agree with this. He's more powerful just sitting and saying his dialogue than an actor who goes into all kinds of mechanics and theatrics.

If it weren't for Shawshank, I would have voted for Seven...Freeman was incredible in that movie - but he just blew me away in Shawshank, so I had to vote for that one.

Incidently, I would have listed "Street Smart" on the voting list before I listed films like Robin Hood and Nurse Betty - which I basically think Morgan walked his way through.

matome 03-15-04 08:08 AM

Why isn't Dreamcatcher one of the main options???? Oh well, guess I'll have to go with Se7en, a far inferior movie.

Geofferson 03-15-04 08:39 AM

Red in Shawshank.

He deserved to win the Oscar that year.

iggystar 03-15-04 09:43 AM

Man I immediately picked Shawshank becuase it's one of my favorite movies, but I should have picked Driving Miss Daisy, he channeled a old man in that one.

kneijst1 03-15-04 10:05 AM

Shawshank all the way. one of the best movies period, esp. in the performances given from the whole cast.

mookiemeister 03-15-04 10:10 AM

He's just excellent in Shawshank Redemption.

El-Kabong 03-15-04 12:42 PM

Where the hell is the Electric Company option? Sure I dig his later work, but man he had an impact on me as a kid.

rushmore223 03-15-04 12:57 PM

Where is the choice for his Oscar Nominated performance in the movie "Street Smart"

It is this movie that really put him on the map after all.

Of the choices I had, I chose Unforgiven, but Shawshank was so close.
