...and besting the previous mark of perfection (The Last Emperor, 9 for 9).
Trivia Time: What else do those two films have in common?

I was unsure if any other film had swept its nominated categories.

Film history was made tonight...no longer will Hollywood be able to say that fantasy and sci-fi genres are incapable of being total successes with the industry, the critics and the public.

Except that this "we'll wait until after the 3rd film to reward Jackson and his films" sucks for all the other films/directors nominated this year.

Yes, it does. But I am also one of the few that would have liked to see it win for FotR, imo - the best film of the trilogy, than wait until the entire trilogy was released to garnish it w/ awards.

I wanted the Triplets song to win too because Benoit Charest is a local boy and because I'm tired of all those darn melancholic sappy songs that always get nominated.

Eh, that song didn't impress me. But then, I really don't like that sort of music.

Frankly, of all the songs presented, I would have gone for that Mighty Wind song. That may be due to being raised on folk music (Limelighters, Peter Paul and Mary, Weavers), and that song is a nice tribute to that era.

I enjoyed watching Annie sing her song, though, because she really showed a lot of emotion while she sang.

Since I love Return of the King and all of its endings, I'm happy to see it sweep.

Songs nominated for the Oscar do tend to suck don't they? The only time I ever enjoyed a performance was the over-the-top performance for "Blame Canada" w/ Robin Williams several years ago.

Well, since no one took me up on the trivia challenge:
Spoiler:
They were the last two films (and the only ones in nearly 50 years) to win Best Picture and not receive a single acting nomination.

Braveheart won the Best Picture award and not a single actor from that film was nominated.

I wasn't as captivated as either the world or the internet with the LOTR, but as a guy who's followed Peter since the horror days and I spent many a night converting my circles of friends to Bad Taste, Meet the Feebles, etc, I couldn't be more happy for him to have a moment in the sun like this. He geniuely seems like a nice guy, who's dedicated more to film than to the star scene, and it feels like the hometown boy made good, even if our towns are 8000 miles apart. Bravo for a virtuoso effort, and tonight truly makes up for the snubs at the last 2 awards.

He is a Derek, and Derek's don't run!

how about the deluxe OOP laserdisc edition (with extras) of "The Frighteners" on DVD, or how about a legitamit Region 1 DVD release of the uncut longer version of "Dead Alive"

Somebody needs to put you in charge of the Peter Jackson DVD library. I'd give my right arm (ok, maybe not my arm...can I borrow yours?) to get these movies in their super duper, decked out with all possible features versions.

It was great to hear him mention Feebles and Bad Taste. Never thought I'd hear those titles on the Oscars.

What I'd really love (in addition to those flicks) is a really nice special edition of Heavenly Creatures. What a masterpiece, and Miramax's DVD is total crapola.
