I've only seen seven of the films, and I really love Last Temptation and Life of Brian, but nothing compares to the Passion.

I just got back from seeing the Passion, and all I can say at this point is "Wow". I'm hoping as my senses return to normal that I'll have more to say.......

Jesus... the movie forum is starting to look like Saturday Night at Ned Flander's...

Life of Brian, I believe, follows a man who's life simply happens to parallel the life of Jesus. Technical knockout!

No Jesus of Nazareth? I'm sorry but I am not voting if you put a movie in that doesn't focus on Jesus over one of the most popular that does. ;P

I like Ben-Hur because it tells the story from the perspective of someone whose life was actually affected by Christ.

Wasn't Jesus of Nazareth a TV mini-series? I meant theatrical films (sorry I did not specify in thread title).

That's too bad because I believe the best two renditions of the Jesus story were "Jesus of Nazareth" and the recent mini-series "Jesus".

Unfortunately, many of the theatrical versions of the story are quite frankly...boring. They make Jesus out to be a very stilted, distant and unapproachable "God-like" entity rather than a real person. The mini-series humanized Jesus to where you could see why people were attracted to him both as a teacher and as a man. He had a real personality in the mini-series rather than just being a figure to be worshipped.

Don't get the wrong idea, I believe Jesus is God's son and not just a "great teacher". I just believe he was also fully man while on earth and was probably very approachable and a great guy to "hang with".

what about the Gospel of John? it's in theatres now (at least where i am...)
i haven't seen it but it's supposed to be very Biblically accurate. supposedly, very little interpretation of the events but pretty much just a straight visual depiction of John's Gospel, word for word.

I think The Gospel According to St. Matthew is the most impressive, but for my personal taste, has to be Jesus Christ Superstar all the way. I imagine that when that came it out, it must have been to similar Passion-like controversy, what with the movie being filled with hippies and angels wearing pasties over their boobs.

Definitely gonna go with Last Temptation of Christ on this one. It did the best of making Jesus feel like a person.

The Life of Brian has definitiely had the greatest ingluence on me - anytime the Sermon on the Mount is mentioned, I think of Big Nose.

I voted for Ben-Hur (silent version). Whoa, what a film!

Not sure if it is really a "Jesus" film, but it's my favorite of the ones on the poll.

It sounds like you might be under the impression that Ben-Hur is a real story.

I voted for The Greatest Story Ever Told in the name of good taste and decency. But, IMHO, the answer should have been Julien Duvivier's Golgotha (1935) or, better still Robocop.

I havent seen The Passion..., but The Gospel According to St. Matthew is just awe-inspiring, so I voted for it.
