I was going to suggest a movie about Thermopalyae, but it looks like there's already at least one -- 300 Spartans. Anyone know if it's any good?

The eruption of Mt. Vesuvius in AD 79, destroying Pompeii, would be a *fabulous* historical/disaster movie.

Sand Creek Massacre
Founding of Astoria by John Jacob Astor and the fur trade in the NW
Building of the Panama Canal
Building of the Erie Canal
Daniel Boone and the Shawnee in Ohio.
The "massacre" of Marcus and Narcissus Whitman.

there are dozens and dozens of conflicts in the colonial/revolutionary period that would make for great films....the more the merrier I say....

Having studied a bit of Chinese and Japanese history, I really wish there were more movies on either subject. I don't think there's enough quality Asian actors/actresses though.
