Who knows. They're both very talented actors. I can't really say one is better than the other. I will say that Depp has chosen more films that I like watching, but that doesn't determine acting talent. They're both really good.

As much as i love Norton, Depp has shown more versatility and a wider range of characters.

Edward Norton is his generation's Sean Penn. He'll be seen as one of the fine actors of his time.

Depp is flashy and fun - he's definitely an entertainer - but does he have the chops? It's hard to say.

They're so different - it's like asking who's better, Morgan Freeman or Paul Newman? They're completely different actors (although my money would be on Freeman).

Johnny Depp by far, he's got charm. Norton's great too, but he's not as versatile.

I like both equally, but I have to give the nod to Johnny-boy because he is a little more versatile than Edward, imo.

They are IMO the top two actors working today, and will always be remembered as 2 of the greatest ever. I give the nod to Depp because he has stayed away from some of the cheese Norton as subjected himself to lately.

Depp just barely edges out Norton for me. Like everybody said, Johnny (so far) has been the more versatile. But in ten years time, who knows?

Depp has the range; I used to be a big fan of Norton but frankly he started coasting after "American History X" and 'Fight Club" IMHO, I've enjoyed his performances the last 4-5 years but little of them really amazed me. He seems to be playing the same vaguely cynical, antihero rogue kinda guy in "The Score," "25th Hour," "Italian Job," etc. with minor shadings.

Are you kidding? Depp has made some really crappy films. Hell, one of them opens tomorrow.

Norton has too, of course - *cough* Death to Smoochie *cough* - but he's shown some wild range. I'm happy to see Depp finally getting some respect as a serious actor - his years as Burton's go-to-guy really hurt his reputation - but again, they're so different - to say one is better than the other is like saying Strawberry is better than Orange.

I have to go with Depp... he can pull off an array of different characters. Although Edward is a damn fine actor in his own right.

I definitely have to give the props to Norton. I view him as one of the best actors currently working. I haven't seen a movie that I absolutely hated with him (ok, Italian Job wasn't the greatest, but he wanted out of that one), and I LOVED Fight Club, 25th Hour, American History X, and yes, even Death to Smoochy.

To this day, the mere mention of Cuba Gooding, Jr. will always remind me of how he stole Norton's oscar for Primal Fear. Norton gave an amazing multi-level performance... and Cuba...... well, he can't act his way out of a wet paper sack

The main reason I posted this thread is because 3 years ago, the adulation of Ed Norton was nearly overwhelming on these boards.

Depp has seemingly taken the mantle recently, and the voting is bearing it out.

I GUARANTEE you that 3 years ago, the numbers would have been reversed - if not even showing Norton as more than the 2-1 favorite that Depp currently holds in the poll.

As some people have indicated, there may well be a good reason for this: Norton has not had a really impressive performance in the past few years, and Depp has: Pirates of the Caribbean.

Still, Ed has his die hard supporters, and that is nice to see.

I agree, Depp shot up there with Pirates and Once Upon a Time in Mexico, and after watching those movies, i think a lot of people looked back on his previous work and though... damn that guy really is good. Norton's been solid for years... while his recent work hasn't particularly stood out, i still loved his work, particularly in 25th hour.

I had to go for Norton, I like more of his films. They are both goddamn excellent though.
