no trailers for passion of the chirst?

I was curious as to what trailer we would see. Wouldn't be too appropriate if they showed the Punisher, eh?

I asked someone who is the projectionist in a movie theater and who saw the film himself, and told me the studio requested that NO trailers be shown before the passion. Just wondering if anyone else heard this.

I would not be surprised if there were no trailers...I'll find out tomorrow afternoon.

So if there are no trailers before the film, will we get the commercials advertising Pepsi before the film? :)

Jackskeleton 02-24-04 05:11 PM

THEY'RE SELLING JESUS!!!

There were no trailers prior to the press screening I attended but that's not unusual. Infact at those screenings trailers are a bit of a rare occurance.

That being said I hope that there's no trailers or advertising prior to screenings of this magnificent film. I'd be interested in hearing if you encounter them. I know that when I go see it again that if there are commercials then I'll be writing a letter to the chain's head office. Trailers are reasonable but I don't think it's approriate for them to show ads before this movie.

Just under 4 hours untill I can publish my review :)

I work for a very large movie chain, and there will be no trailers played before the passion of the Christ.

dcprules 02-25-04 12:52 AM

That will be strange. I've never seen a movie with NO trailers before it. In a way it's good (especially for the context of the movie), but in another way it's very bad. A lot of people get to movies late (plan it out so they arrive about 20 minutes late after the ads and previews). So, a lot of people could be coming into The Passion well into movie (which will REALLY irk me).

DonnachaOne 02-25-04 12:59 AM

I don't agree with saying there should be no trailers because of the film's somber content. The trailers aren't what people are thinking about while the movie's watching.

Did they forego trailers for Schindler's List?

I think this is a bad move... and I don't want people walking into the film trying to find seats ten minutes in.

Jackskeleton 02-25-04 01:06 AM

Donnacha has a point. Should all serious pieces forego the trailer? Saving Private Ryan have trailers?

There were trailers for Goodbye, Lenin! and Madison at my screening today.

ephesix 02-25-04 04:53 PM

there were no trailers when i saw it last night... which was announced before hand... and met with CHEERS from the audience. i had thought about it before hand and am glad there were no trailers or commercials.

We had a Kyocera Slider Phone commvercial (which I had woohoo), a slick nascar coke commercial, two brothers trailer(the lion movie, maybe wrong title), sky captain trailer, and a few others i forget.

dyerjp 02-25-04 05:20 PM

We had absolutely nothing before the film.
No commericials or trailers.

Rammsteinfan 02-25-04 11:09 PM

WE had Agent Cody Banks and Two Brothers as previews... that was all.

Corvin 02-25-04 11:48 PM

I had one for The Alamo. That's it, aside from the other promo junk.

Oh, as long as we're on a related topic--anyone hate the MovieTickets commercial? The one with the three college males in the theater: "I bet a lot of them used MovieTickets to get their tickets..." blah blah blah "Yeah, but you're here!" blah blah blah "That's not a hotty that's a guy!" LAME.

Teremei 02-26-04 03:01 AM

Mine had the cody banks one and the two brothers (<- of the later looks really good to me)

jarofclay73 02-26-04 03:08 AM

They showed "Madison" and "Two Brothers" at my showing. It was cool to see James Caviezel in "Madison" since he was also in the "The Passion."

Supermallet 02-26-04 04:15 AM

It would bother me if they didn't show trailers, simply because that would be saying, "Well, we respect Jesus (or, more likely, Mel Gibson) more than anything else we show." If anything, Return of the King shouldn't have had trailers, because it's already quite long, and we don't need ads and trailers adding another 20 minutes.

Or could it be that the chains are considering this a work of art and not just entertainment? In that case, why were there trailers before City of God? That movie is also quite harrowing and certainly art over entertainment, but I saw trailers before it. In fact, I saw a trailer for The Passion of the Christ before it.
