RobCA 02-20-04 05:51 PM

I've never seen them, so no. :)

Rob

Gillette 02-20-04 05:58 PM

as a movie

QuiGonJosh 02-20-04 05:59 PM

great movies...but not the best...

Pants 02-20-04 06:04 PM

No.

They're probably not in my top 100

My top 3 are:
2001
Vertigo
Goodfellas

Kal-El 02-20-04 06:09 PM

No, but they're up there. There really is no 'BEST' anyway even for just one person IMO. You'll always think of something else better or something else that equals it.

jaeufraser 02-20-04 06:13 PM

The LoTR movies are, by far, the best films I have ever seen based on Tolkien's work. Now that's a FACT!

PixyJunket 02-20-04 06:16 PM

NO

Leon: The Professional, American Beauty, Requeim for a Dream, Godfather, etc, etc..

JPRaup 02-20-04 06:27 PM

the lord of the rings movies are the best movies ive seen in a while

MEJHarrison 02-20-04 06:42 PM

Great movies, but certainly nowhere near the "best" for me.

matome 02-20-04 06:52 PM

Hell no. TTT may crack my Top100 but that's it.

Simpson Purist 02-20-04 06:56 PM

No, but the LOTR movies are one of the best movies to come out in the past 3 years. ;)

laserdogg 02-20-04 06:59 PM

They are the best movies about The Lord Of The Rings that I have ever seen! :D

Pants 02-20-04 07:02 PM

Best of all time!!?!? :whofart:

There not even the best films of the last 5 years.

Jason 02-20-04 07:25 PM

in before the move to movie talk...

I'd have to say that they are among the best movies I've ever seen.

Let's go through the details:

1) Faithful to the source material for an adapted work. Check.

2) Talented cast. Check.

3) Well written screenplay. Check.

4) Creative set and costume design. Check.

5) Great score. Check.

6) Solid directing and good pacing. Check.

7) Doesn't fall apart at the end. Check.

8) Great visual effects/cinematography. Check.

9) Left the theater ready to see it again. Check.

It was a success at pretty much every level, unless you're a Tom Bombadil fan or really wanted to see Liv Tyler carving up orcs.

El-Kabong 02-20-04 07:40 PM

Oh please - best movie ever? Rings gets it's ass handed to it by:
* Citizen Kane
* Casablanca
* The Godfather
* Star Wars
* Raiders of the Lost Ark
* The Mark of Zorro
* The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly
* Ernest Saves Christmas
and Police Academy 7: Mission to Moscow

And that's just for starters. Although I do have to admit that the Rings movies were indeed better than Jaws: the Revenge - but only just.

No doubt! And that's pretty amazing too, since the competition is so rough.

caiman 02-20-04 08:23 PM

No, but ROTK is in my top 10.

Good thread, btw...

Kicker_of_Elves 02-20-04 08:31 PM

Nope. It is a very entertaining trilogy though.

fumanstan 02-20-04 08:36 PM

No.

theneobez 02-20-04 08:37 PM

No, but FOTR would crack my top 5. My 5 favs: Vertigo, Lost in Translation, Amelie, Matrix, and FOTR

nemein 02-20-04 08:38 PM

I've decided I have no best movie anymore... there are just too many different movies I like for different reasons so it's hard to judge/compare them all and say one is the best.

bodomnet 02-20-04 09:29 PM

They are great but No.
