Those who say "maybe ___ was a sequel".... For the love of anything pure... NO NO NO. the only sequel for TRON will be TRON 2 which will never happen so thus there is no sequels for TRON. it's not like you say "Perhaps Band of brothers is a sequel to saving private ryan" or maybe "E.T. was a sequel to close encounters"

reformat your thinking!

If only Disneyworld would do a TRON ride. Either sitting and riding in a circuit board or a simulated light cycle ride. That would be too cool!

if only. but like I said, disney treats tron like it's bastard child. You may recall a time when the people mover had a little section that showcased the light cycle race. It was removed. :(

New 'Tron' races on
Kosinski will program Disney sequel ;)
By Borys Kit

Sept 11, 2007

TORONTO -- Commercial director Joseph Kosinski is in final negotiations to develop and direct "Tron," described as "the next chapter" of Disney's 1982 cult classic. Sean Bailey is producing via the Live Planet banner, as is Steven Lisberger, who co-wrote and directed the original film.

Kosinski, who last month signed on to helm the remake of "Logan's Run" for Warner Bros. Pictures, will oversee the visual development of the project and have input on the script, which is being written by "Lost" scribes Eddie Kitsis and Adam Horowitz. Story details are being kept secret.

The original, about a computer programr thrust into a computer and forced to fight in games he helped create, is remembered for its sci-fi gladiator-style battles and groundbreaking special effects. It was the first movie to use computer-generated images instead of models and other optical effects in conjunction with live action. The arcade game based on the movie was so popular that it earned more than the movie.

When making the original, in order to convince the studio to take a chance on a first-time director, Lisberger shot a test reel, financed by the studio, involving the deadly Frisbee battle. In a case of historical synchronicity, sources said one of the things Kosinski will be doing is working on a sequence involving the movie's Light Cycles to work out his vision for the movie. Sources also said visual effects personnel, for many of whom "Tron" was an inspiration to enter the business, already are jockeying for pole position to work on the sequence.

Brigham Taylor is overseeing for Disney.

Kosinski is a former architect whose specs caught the attention of director David Fincher, who convinced Kosinski to move to Los Angeles, where he joined the director at commercial house Anonymous Content. Kosinski then moved quickly up the ladder, eventually directing award-winning spots for Nike, Apple and Nintendo that gained notice for their use of computer technology that erased the lines between reality and CGI.

Kosinski is repped by Endeavor and Michael Sugar and Bard Dorros at Anonymous Content.

I think Tron was one of the first movies I ever rented...on VHS. :o

It was one of my favorite movies. The light cycles were the best!

Damn, I remember the arcade game more than the movie :(

Fun fact, I work with adam horowitz's brother. Should be good, I dig his lost episodes, especially the tales from the crypt-ish one with paolo.

As an obvious fan, I say it's about damn time they finally got to some serious work on the sequel!

I love me some TRON. It's the closest I've come to feeling like I was back on acid while watching a movie. Excellent cast and some great visuals for '82. I always love seeing David Warner playing a villain. My friend has the arcade game in his arcade room and it's awesome.

Anyone know if this sequel going to be based upon the work Lisberger did for his proposed TRON sequel or on the 2.0 game? Kinda sucks that they have someone else working on the story, but the studios willing to take some of Lisberger's money for production credit (hopefully he will retain some influence). Who knows, it might turn out to be decent. Maybe they'll even be some nice merchandise, especially from the overlooked original.

I'm a big fan of Tron, saw the movie when I was a kid. Purchased the laserdisc, the 2-dvd set, the 20th anniversary cd. Played the two arcade games, Tron and Discs of Tron and the pc Tron 2.0 "sequel". I think there is even a Tron comic book currently out that is a sequel to Tron 2.0.

If they do another movie, that have to bring Wendy Carlos back, the score has to be all electronic. Like everything during the 80's it was such an innocent time for computers and computer geeks. Who knew that by 2007 they would rule the world! :D

End of Line.
