Passion of Christ Rolling Ad
DALLAS — NASCAR driver Bobby Labonte will race in the Daytona 500 in a car that's being repainted to advertise Mel Gibson's "The Passion of the Christ." Interstate Batteries chairman Norm Miller says Gibson's studio won't be charged for the rolling ad, because he believes the film about Jesus' crucifixion accurately depicts the most important 12 hours in history. Labonte drives his No. 18 Chevy Monte Carlo for the Joe Gibbs Racing team. Miller says the ad is a "gotta-do deal" -- because he, Gibbs and Labonte are all Christians -- and the timing couldn't be better. The Daytona 500 takes place a week from Sunday -- ten days before the film's February 25th release. |
As I pointed out in the other thread:
Damn, Jesus built Labonte's hot rod. |
Can't wait to watch the film!

If he crashes, the Jews are responsible.

If he crashes...it was due to MPAA censorship.
|
If he wins, the cliche "I want to thank Jesus" will finally be deserved!

Now, which car is Jesus really sponsoring? Story here talks about both Labonte's car and the Morgan Shepard ride above. |
I really think this is going to alienate the huge Jewish Nascar Fan demographic...

Bill Lester (african american) in the Truck series, Shawna Robinson (Winston Cup)and Tina Gordon (Truck series) are female, not much, but they apparently have diversity programs trying to get more people from different backgrounds involved in racing at all levels.
I'm starting to see more of it in the crowds at least. Being hispanic I don't run into a lot of other hispanics at races. At least not until I got to Talladega of all places. Along with hispanic fans we encountered african america and asian fans as well. Heck, when I got to the Phoenix race there were even more hispanic and african american fans than I have seen at any previous race. But when I go to the track here in Texas ( a state with a sizable hispanic population) you can hardly spot anything but white folk! Although they have these programs in place, I think they need to start earlier getting kids interested in racing so when they grow up they might want to get into to it at it's highest levels. Now..back to the dueling Jesus mobiles! |
