Easy call for me: other

Wild River (1960)

. . . and to think I wouldn't have seen it a few years ago if the print for Alphaville had arrived on time.

Charlie Goose 01-29-04 04:38 PM

The Rat from Squealytown

Seriously, I like On the Waterfront best although I haven't seen all the listed films.

A Face in the Crowd is more relevant today than ever. How many innocent seeming, likable tv celebs are really power hungry egotistically SOBs?

"A Streetcar Named Desire"

Marlon Brando. Vivien Leigh. Kim Hunter. Karl Malden.

All giving legendary performances. Leigh won Best Actress. Hunter won Supporting Actress. Malden won Supporting Actor. And Brando should have won Best Actor.

"On the Waterfront" is a definite classic, but I have always been much more affected by "Streetcar."

Buford T Pusser 01-29-04 10:31 PM

Andy Griffith gave an excellent performance in "A Face In The Crowd".

Neeb 01-29-04 11:51 PM

A Face in the Crowd.

I want this on DVD. Now.

It's become very relevant.

Ditto, except: Marlon Brando, Lee J Cobb, Rod Steiger, Eva Marie Saint, Karl Malden.

Oh, and reverse the pictures. On the Waterfront!

As much as I dislike Kazan for what he did, I'd say On The Waterfront is his best film and one of the 50s.

smirnoffski 02-02-04 11:53 PM

Bump.

Butch Coolidge 02-03-04 02:10 AM

America, America is certainly his best movie

Once available on DVD here

Agreed. Lee Remick and the post-accident Monty Clift are both excellent.

That sounds like kind of an intriguing story, sundog...

A fan of Kazan as an artist, but not as a man.

Some get elected Governor of California!

"Streetcar", which contains my favorite Brando performance.

I was predictable and voted for Waterfront. But I saw A Tree Grows In Brookyln recently and was surprised by how much I like it. And I'm embarassed to admit I never knew Boomerang and A Face in the Crowd, both fine flicks, were Kazan films!

Kinyo 02-04-04 05:32 PM

On the Waterfront got my vote.

GeoffK 02-05-04 01:28 AM
