best Peter Weir movie

Which is Weir's best movie?

William Fuld 01-28-04 10:32 PM

Fearless

movielib 01-28-04 11:07 PM

Witness is one of my favorites of all time. But I like them all in varying degrees except The Mosquito Coast.

B.A. 01-28-04 11:10 PM

Gallipoli

chente 01-28-04 11:32 PM

Of the 6 on the list that I have seen, I liked Witness the best.

Matthew Chmiel 01-28-04 11:34 PM

IMO, it's either The Truman Show or Picnic at Hanging Rock.

Kal-El 01-28-04 11:35 PM

Dead Poets Society hands down. Carpe Diem.

Neeb 01-28-04 11:56 PM

Last Wave or Master and Commander

Grimfarrow 01-29-04 12:11 AM

The exclusion of The Last Wave, one of his best, is perplexing.

Peter Weir is one of my favorite directors, right up their with Terry Gilliam, I love almost all of his films, but I have to say Fearless is one of the most emotional films I have ever seen, and therefore, that is where my vote will go.

Andalusia 01-29-04 02:30 AM

Witness

Shannon Nutt 01-29-04 04:34 AM

Easy one for me: Witness. (Also Harrison Ford's Best Movie, IMHO)

QuiGonJosh 01-29-04 05:04 AM

Im goin with Witness...

eedoon 01-29-04 05:21 AM

The Truman Show is very good. Haven't seen Witness yet.

Tarnower 01-29-04 05:52 AM

"Witness." One of the finest films of the 1980s. Weir's masterpiece, IMHO.

PalmerJoss 01-29-04 06:45 AM

Dead Poets Society. It is one of the most uplifting movies I've ever seen, and at the same time one of the saddest I've ever seen as well. Excellent performances all around, especially Ethan Hawke and Robin Williams. I'm still hoping there will be a SE dvd one day of this great movie.

Shemp 01-29-04 01:38 PM

Fearless

Mr. Cricket 01-29-04 01:47 PM

I'm not exactly a fan, but of the ones I've seen, I'd say Gallipoli was his best. I did enjoy Witness as well.

Geofferson 01-29-04 01:50 PM

Fearless
Master & Commander
The Year of Living Dangerously

fnordboy 01-29-04 01:55 PM

Picnic at Hanging Rock.

MrN 01-29-04 01:56 PM

I voted for Picnic. Truman would be my second choice.

There's one film of his I just loathe - but I don't even want to get started.

lesterlong 01-29-04 04:01 PM

Just watched Picnic last night. But I have to go with Master & Commander.

Sparrow 02-01-04 08:39 PM

Witness, followed closely by Dead Poet's Society and the Truman Show. Very talented director, my least favorite (ie. I really didn't like it at all), Master & Commander.

FiveO 02-01-04 09:14 PM

Witness is a great movie.

I also really enjoyed Mosquito Coast.

Ginwen 02-02-04 01:07 PM

I picked The Year of Living Dangerously, but I like all of them very much (except Dead Poets Society).
