From what I heard the broken arm on Gothika wasn't her clumsiness or her fault at all. I had read somewhere that Robert Downey Jr. got a little overzealous in a scene where he was restraining her and accidentally broke her arm. So that one at least can't be attributed to her.
On the other hand, anybody laughing at the idea of a woman getting beat up by their husband or boyfriend, no matter who she is or how long ago it was, really has some issues in my opinion. The idea isn't even a little amusing and jokes about it can't be simply dismissed with a little
