ROTK hits $876.5 million worldwide!

#6 worldwide.

http://www.boxofficemojo.com/alltime/world/

I think since it has not opened in Japan yet and it will make around $60 million at least.

It will hit 1 billion worldwide :)

Vonner 01-27-04 08:10 AM

4 golden globes and 11 oscar noms might help it reach 1 billion. I know I'm going to see it again.

raven56706 01-27-04 09:16 AM

Same here.... going to see it 1 more time.

WillySi7 01-27-04 09:16 AM

i cant believe it hasnt opened in Japan yet! for some reason itd make my day if this hit 1 bil.. i think as a fan the box office is an indicator of how well the movie is recieved, and i think the filmmakers and actors on this project deserve a mark of that nature.. only the second film in history..

when does it open in japan? (funny how they get their PS2s and gamecubes a year before us.. )

It opens in Japan on February 14th. And, it just opened this weekend in Italy and Russia. From those three alone, it should easily add another $100 million. Add these to the remaining box office in the US and other countries where it is already playing, and it has a strong chance of reaching $1 billion.

Peter Jackson is coming to Japan on the 22nd I think, and he is bring the One Ring with him. Some ceremony at a local Japanese Temple.I sure wanna be there for that one.

WillySi7 01-28-04 12:01 PM

and to think this movie has been out for just over a month.. how long do films of this nature stay in theatres (and i wonder who decides all of that)? hopefully ROTK will get another month or two to make its claim..

In the end, the decision comes from a certain Mr. George Washington.

It hasnt even opened in Australia yet either. Not just a chance, I say 1 billion is definite.

Kumar J 01-28-04 07:37 PM

Japan is the last place to be shown widely it seems so I guess Mount Doom is in Japan ;) so that why Peter is bringing the One Ring to Japan to be lost forever

actually it did open in Australia already.

so far it has made $29,993,394 since 12/26/2003.

Left to open:
China- no date set
Japan-02/14/2004
Dominican Republic-no date set
Egypt-02/11/2004
India-01/30/2004

Two Towers totals:
China-$2,842,648
Japan-$65,021,313
Dominican Republic-$200,000
Egypt-$129,736
India-$954,354
Total from remaining based on TT-$68,289,131

just using these totals you would get ROTK up to 945 million and that does not take into account anymore money from other countries. It might be close , but it should make it to 1 billion.

Glad I caught it in January when I was back in the States. I have another business trip next week and maybe I'll just sneak in another viewing before it opens in Japan.

Kumar J 01-29-04 07:35 PM

If you have chance to be in Japan ,see it at Virgin Cinemas in Roppongi Hills. It's the best cinema in Japan right now!And is always packed, so book your seats with the theater once you arrive in Tokyo.

Rubix 02-08-04 11:30 PM

jesus titanic doubles #2 and you could take a billion away from it and it would still be in the top 10!

Ari77 02-09-04 04:48 PM

Box Office Mojo is reporting $14.6 million for the opening weekend in Japan, but I don't know if that is confirmed, or just an estimate.

The worldwide total now sits at $974 million. The $1 billion mark is now only days away.

Kumar J 02-17-04 06:57 PM

I have not seen it yet, so much crowd.Maybe after the oscars it will get more push.

Hokeyboy 02-17-04 07:46 PM

Yeah, they rereleased the Bakshi version from the 70's and it finally found an audience.
