Who do you guys consider a better actor- Steve Buscemi or John Turturro?

Well, the reason i'm asking this is because they are often compared actors, and would like to know what everyone else here thought? Who's more versatile and better at his craft? Obviously i realise, Steve Buscemi is far more popular and people know him more.

I've seen most of everything SB has done and a bunch of JT's work. That said... I don't want to compare. They're both great actors. However, it does seem like JT can do the more offbeat, character-driven roles. Just saw him in an episode of Monk over the weekend and he was great as usual.

I like them both so I'm sitting on the fence :).

Poll?

Uh, both

John Turturro, definitely. Look at the difference between his characters in Do The Right Thing and Barton Fink. I think he is one of the great unsung actors working today.

Buscemi isnt bad, just nothing has overly impressed me by him.

I love both as well, but I have to give the edge to Buscemi. Whenever I see Turturro, there is never any doubt he is from New York. He just can't seem to shake the accident. But Buscemi seems like he can be from anywhere and any background. He's a real chameleon in that respect.

That is a tough one . . . I think I'd give the edge to Turturro, but I'm not sure I could tell you why . . . maybe because he tends to be able to play a wider range of characters.

Examples:
- Mr. Deeds - Emilio Lopez
- Rounders - Joey Knish
- The Big Lebowski - Jesus Quintana
- Clockers - Det. Larry Mazilla
- Quiz Show - Herbie Stempel
- Barton Fink - Barton Fink
- Do the Right Thing - Pino
- The Color of Money - Julian
- Gung Ho - Willie

I think my personal favorite is "Joey Knish" in Rounders.

And don't forget the great job he did in Miller's Crossing.

Obviously, I think the Turturro is the better of the two.

chanster 01-26-04 12:38 PM

Turturro.

Buscemi always seems to play the weird guy.

Corvin 01-26-04 01:06 PM

Sneaky, sneaky.

I'm going to have to go with John Turturro. Can't wait to see him in Secret Window.

PalmerJoss 01-26-04 01:14 PM

I prefer John Turturro because he seems to have a bit more range than Steve Buscemi. I love both actors a lot, but Turturro gets the slight edge because of his versatility.

Nobody ****s with the Jesus!

cruzness 01-26-04 01:53 PM

Love both of these guys but Turturro has a slight edge on the versatility of his characters. Even though he plays ethnic characters because of his appearance.

lesterlong 01-26-04 03:49 PM

Turturro.

Although I am a big fan of Quiz Show, Steve Buscemi has my vote for his constant quirky attitude and performances.

What about Brian Cox or Ian Mckellin?

Or Johnny Depp and Benicio Del Toro?

Or Philip Seymour Hoffman and Vincent D'Noffreo?

Ian McKellen
That's really tough but I have to go with...Johnny Depp
Philip Seymour Hoffman by leaps and bounds.

Please keep going!

Jack Straw 01-26-04 10:48 PM

Buscemi for his role as Mr. Pink in Reservoir Dogs

gcribbs 01-26-04 11:02 PM

Steve Buscemi. I just like him in more movies.

Deftones 01-26-04 11:45 PM

after seeing Turturro in the last episode of Monk, my vote is definately with him.

kvrdave 01-27-04 12:39 AM

Turturro

fnordboy 01-27-04 01:00 AM

Turturro. Buscemi is great, but to me Buscemi is almost always the same character. Turturro just has more substance to him.

MrX 01-27-04 01:11 AM

Turturro
