With 4 Golden Globe awards for ROTK.. would that encourage more viewings?
 

Since the Return of the King just won 4 Golden Globe awards tonight which I missed entirely.. darn.. wanted to see it, do you think that will encourage you or more people to go see the movie again?

Certainly won't hurt, but realistically, I'd say that 98% of the people who want to see the movie have seen it by now.

It will play for quite a bit longer and see some business acceleration, but it tends to be the smaller films that get the biggest business help from noms and awards.

Good thing that the Golden Globes can bring attention to this underseen film!

Yup. Not enough folks saw it or even know what LOTR is.. hopefully the awards voters will realize this little indie film has some legs....

Yeah, I imagine like many other small films this win will bring in the audiences to appreciate what a wonderful, intimate and small film this is. Now people can realize it's not about special effects...

Ok, seriously, everyone has seen this film. I imagine that these award wins will keep the film playing through March, but I don't expect that much of a boost. I mean...it's not like this film needs it. And it's not like we will be able to tell what the award effect is...since it's already so insanely popular. But you know what...it deserves it, great film, great trilogy...Bravo.

I don't think the golden globe wins will keep it playing any longer than it already would have, since it's still going to play for a while for so academy members can see it again for free when voting for the oscars. If it wins best picture at the oscars, well, it's hard to encourage many more viewings out of a film that's been seen by so many people, but there might be a few who go see it again.

It might bump it up a bit...

I think Lost in Translation will benefit the most from it. "It" being winning Golden Globes.

since it won best picture from the globes, i think that'll give me an excuse to see it a fourth time ;)

Yup. I'm waiting to roll my eyes at all the "Hated it" comments by those walking in expecting a LOL comedy..

I'd be really shocked if the Golden Globe wins and possibly also winning the Oscar awards didn't really boost more viewings. Afterall, didn't Titanic get a huge boost from winning these awards?

All I can say is that ROTK is way better than Titanic and I can't believe how Titanic managed to scoop so much money at the boxoffice.

No, I wouldn't say Titanic got any boost by oscar nods. The difference was that Titanic started out strong and just never let up. It's per weekend drop off was miniscule, never really going above 20%, usually less. You have to understand Titanic in many ways was a word of mouth hit. It opened ok (28 million) and then just didn't let up. It literally took a couple months before it's weekend box office was less than 20 million dollars. It's box office was definately stronger on a weekend comparison than RoTK at this point. Though, RoTK's opening was by all means much bigger.

So no, I don't think this nomination will do much...it never really does to these mega blockbusters. While Titanic continued to do well after its nominations, it's key to remember it continued...it was doing that sort of business regardless.

Yep, the reason being that people that didn't like the first two (or haven't seen the first two) aren't going to go see the third LOTR film simply because it one a Golden Globe.
