I really liked the movie, but there is something that really bothered me after viewing it (and it wasn't that I actually enjoyed Stephen Baldwin as an actor).
Kevin Spacey won the Oscar that year (1996) for Best Supporting Actor... when I would have considered him as a lead (for obvious reasons that I won't spoil).
What do y'all think about that? Who would you consider the lead? Gabriel Byrne (Keaton)? Keyser Soze (who ever he was)?
(And for the record, I still can't stand Chazz Palminteri... he bugs me.)
(By the way I found it kind of funny that the FBI guy was Agent Jack Baur! )

Please tell me you knew who Keyser Soze was after watching that movie. If you don't, then they truly pulled one off on you.

Groucho: Yeah, that's what I figured.

You're confusing these deliniations with the best chance at Oscar gold. It seems in the last 10 or so years, that has been a very loose deliniation. My moment of shock came when Sam Jackson was pushed as a supporting player for Pulp Fiction. Recent years have seen Marisa Tomei, Jennifer Connelly, Jim Broadbent and Marcia Gay Harden all win in supporting roles when I think there's no way they didn't play co-lead. It's more about getting recognition than properly categorizing them. Unfortunately, studio grandstanding by pushing them in these categories costs actors playing true support their deserved recognition.
But as for Spacey, I can somehow live with it, though he just as easily could have been nominated for lead. The ensemble nature of the performances, and the fact that it will probably be in the top 3 roles of every one of their careers, I do wish Spacey had been pushed for the lead, and the very deserving Del Torro, Baldwin or Pollock would have been nominated in support.
