best Al Pacino performance
Which is Pacino's best performance?

With 100% of the vote I guess GF wins.

Pacino is a legendary actor, but the Godfather films really do it for me.

Michael Corleone

Definitely Godfather

Although I believe his best performance is in Godfather II, I voted for Donnie Brasco because it seems everyone (including those who nominated the Oscars that year!) forget how great he was in that movie.
He's also QUITE good in Godfather III...not his best performance, but good enough that it should have been listed above as an option. |
Carlito's Way

Godfather
|
Godfather I and II are about the only two films that I can tolerate Pacino in...Other than that, I really can't stand him.
|
Carlito's Way should definitely be an option. He was awesome in that.

It's really a toss-up for me among Godfather, Glengarry Glenn Ross, Donnie Brasco, and Carlito's Way. He was great in all those roles, but I would give you a different answer each day depending on my mood. Today I'll go with Donnie Brasco.

You really should offer Godfather I & II as separate choices. I liked his performance in the first film more than the second. That's not to say he wasn't great in the sequel, but I thought his role in the original was more challenging.

Dog Day Afternoon by far.
|
It has to be Scarface. He turned Cuban with a lisp (or something like that). In the Godfather, his acting lacked range such that him trying to be wise or having wisdom or experience within his character didn't seem beleivable.

Scent of a Woman was tremendous because he had to keep his eyes in that stare without the glasses on.
I know it won the Oscar, and may be popular but I still think it's his best work. Angels in America would come in second. Outstanding. |
Of the ones I've seen, Scarface.
|
From the choices in the poll I went with "Dog Day Afternoon". I liked him in "Scarface" too. Though it's not listed in the poll, I'd like to show a little love for Frank Serpico (1973). Before clicking on the thread and seeing the choices, that was the first one that came to my mind; he did earn a Best Actor nomination for the role.

Scarface, closely followed by Godfather 1/2
|
My vote goes for the one where he screams really loud.
|
The Godfather Part II. But most of those are in the same league (loved Angels in America) - Pacino's acting is like singing.
|
I thought he was overacting in Scent of a Woman. But I would give Glengarry Glen Ross as close second after Scarface. Dog Day Afternoon, one of my fav comedies, has be up there among his best performances...

I don't get those voting for "Heat" or "The Insider"???
Where is the sense of the history of modern film? Pacino has given extraordinary performances in such 70s-era staples as both "Godfather" films, "Dog Day Afternoon" (his best IMO), and "Serpico." If you're voting for "Heat" or "Insider" because you haven't seen those others, I can understand that. Although I would get crackin' if I were you. Not only were his performances superior in those 70s films, but the films themselves were as well. I have always considered his performance in "Dog Day Afternoon" one of the greatest pieces of acting (male or female) that I've ever seen. And the film itself is excellent. Possibly the best of Sidney Lumet's legendary New York dramas. |
Where's Serpico?
