Well if you liked the movie, great. Most people would say it is pretty crappy..but its your (and mine) opinion.
I really could care less what Weaver said about the series. She was responsible for some of the worst aspects of the later Alien movies (3 and 4). She took over a co-producer role in Alien3 (and retainedthe role in Alien4), demanded a lot of money, and also demanded that the movie be a star-driven show as opposed to an ensemble cast like Alien and to a lesser extent Aliens.
Don't get me wrong, Weaver is a great actress and was great in Alien and Aliens, but I feel that her presence in making decisions at the producer level was a major problem with 3 and 4
As far as I can tell, she demanded that her character die at the end of Alien3. Then she needed some cash, so she agreed to come back in the inane Resurrecton. .
As for the Newt/Hicks thing, Weaver herself said she loved the idea that the aliens take away everything she's ever loved.
