Best performance of the trilogy
I don't usually fawn over actors, but Sean Bean has got to be one of the greatest in the world, and his Boromir broke my heart. How Jackson, Walsh, Boyens and He managed to make that character so awesome is a mystery I will never figure out. Serkis is a close second, tied with Astin's Sam.

OH this poll is hard!
id say between gollum, Boromir, gandalf, theoden and Sam and even Pippin was great in Rotk |
I was thinking about this last night - i.e. how might the Academy actually nominate someone from this movie for an award.
Viggo or Elijah for best actor? Not quite, it was tough to say who was the star... Ian or Sean for best supporting actor? tough, it was SUCH an ensemble. There were so many awesome performances... but at least for ROTK, it finally came down to: "Best Supporting Actor" - Sean Astin as Samwise If anyone SUPPORTED in this film it was Samwise!!! |
A toss up between:
Sir Ian McKellen as Gandalf and Sean Astin as Samwise But, in the end, really all the principals did amazing jobs. These two characters just continued to amazing me. |
I liked Sean Astin's Samwise the most, but everyone else, except for Liv Tyler, did a decent job. Sorry, I just can't stand her long face. Guess she played the perfect part though.
|
Viggo Mortenson as Aragorn. I can't imagine anyone else even playing this part now. I can say that for a few other members of the cast, but none more than Viggo.
Sean Bean was a close second as Boromir - he is so damn good and consistent w/ his performances in each and every movie he's in. |
i think i'm going to go against the grain here and vote for elijah wood. everyone else did a lot of posing and gave a lot of speeches, but elijah's performance was more...i think internal is the word i'm looking for. he didn't have to attach a speech to every emotion he felt, because you felt it with him.
that said, i thought everyone was exceptional. |
After watching the TTTEE documentaries, I had to vote for Serkis/Gollum. I was amazed to see how much of Gollum comes directly from Serkis' performance.
|
I voted for Viggo. Elijah was my least favorite part of the movie
|
I have to go with the entire cast on this one. They all did such a great job on this movie(s). I especially thought Sean Astin was superb as Samwise.
|
Another entire cast..they became their characters. Each has their moments that shine.

It'd be between Sean or Gollum for me. My favorite part of the 3 movies was just Frodo & Sam's quest to Mordor.
I didn't see the spot for Gollum, so I voted for Sam. But I probably would've anyway. Sean Astin did an oustanding job. |
what in the HELL?!?!?!!?!? WHERE IS GIMLI?!?!?!!?!?!?

I was thinking of starting a poll about who was the star?: was it aragorn, gandalf, frodo, sam? i couldnt decide, and i didnt think it was fair to the actors. it was really an ensemble piece, relying on everyone. for this poll, i voted ensemble. i cant decide between mortensen and mckellan. |
I voted for Bernard Hill as Theoden. Why?
1. The excellent addition of the subplot of Theoden losing all hope after he is awaken by Gandalf and discovers his son Theodred is dead, and getting it back again on the fields of Pelennor. "I must save you." "You already have." 2. Theoden gets all of the great Shakespearean speeches "Arise, arise, Riders of Théoden! Fell deeds awake: fire and slaughter! Spear shall be shaken, shield be splintered, A sword-day, a red day, ere the sun rises! Ride now! Ride now! Ride for ruin and the worlds ending! FORTH EORLINGAS!" "Where is the horse and the rider? Where is the horn that was blowing? They have passed like rain on the mountain, like wind in the meadow. The days have gone down in the West behind the hills into shadow. " "Look at my men! Their courage hangs by a thread! If this is to be our end, then I would have them make such an end, as to be worthy of remembrance!" etc. |
It was a toss up for me between Andy Serkis (Gollum) and Sir Ian McKellen (Gandalf). I had to give it to McKellen simply because he was actually there in person in all three movies.
