1- FOTR
2- ROTK
3- TT
FOTR was so overwhelming to me that I was shocked by what Peter Jackson was able to do with the books. ROTK was great although I expected it to be so i give the slight edge to FOTR.

3) TTT: EE - just a few short steps behind the others due to 'middle child' issues, but on its own, what an incredible fantasy film with unforgettable sights and sounds.
Even now with the 'incomplete' ROTK, it is the best just because of the feelings it elicits from me and the incredible epicness of it.
And taken all together, LOTR has not just raised the bar for epic fantasy/sci-fi filmmaking, it has obliterated it. Bravo!

I expect ROTK EE will be my favorite as well. But in their Theatrical Release versions the FOTR is tighter than the others in terms of storytelling and emotional sweep.

Jesus, it's very tough to rank these. Honestly, I seperate them by slim margins.
1) ROTK- by far the best. For a 3 and 1/2 hour movie, I wasn't bored a second. That in itself is a feat IMO. Great emotion, amazing fights and action and some incredible effects and cinematography. This is the best picture of the year.
2) TTT: EE - slighty better than FOTR, only because Helms Deep is so amazing. Great character development although a few sidetracks here and there that I didn't enjoy that much.
3) FOTR: EE - still one of the best movies I've ever seen and only barely below that of the TTT (EE). Some of the scenes in this one are too good for words.
Overall, of course a great trilogy. Glad ROTK lived up to the massive hype...and it was massive. Peter Jackson will get whatever he wants for the rest of his cinematic life now.

I'll wait for the ROTK:EE to decide. I'm certain it will be better (hopefully) with some improved SFX, more in depth storylines, and conlusions to more of the characters.

I really like fellowship, but to nitpick, it can be a little slow compared to the other two.
1. ROTK
2. TTT
3. FOTR

1. FOTR - Brought me into the world of Middle Earth. And very emotional.
2. ROTK - The ending dragged on for a little too long. The "My friends, you bow to no one." scene was the emotional high point and the movie should have ended there.
3. TTT - I didn't really like the talking tree, but the battle was cool.
I might change my mind if the ROTK Extended Edition is better than the original cut.

1. ROTK -- Of course it's the best, it's where everything that was set up in the first two movies pays off!
2. FOTR -- Has its share of tedious exposition, but also its share of great set-pieces like Gandalf vs. the Balrog. And it's got Sean Bean!
3. TTT -- The unloved middle child. Nothing wrong with it, really (well, warg attack aside), except that it hasn't got a beginning or an end. Gollum does put it in contention with FOTR, though.

I just saw ROTK for the 3rd time tonight, and while I still cherish Fellowship as my favorite, this comes in a very close second. It just keeps getting better and better with every viewing, I absolutely love these movies. Thank the gods of cinema for Peter Jackson, I don;t think anyone could have pulled it off as well as he did.
I was so Numb with anticipation that the emotion that fell flat for me the first time can ringing in loudly the two subsequent times I viewed theis film.
Give this man an Oscar.
I cannot wait for Return of the King EE to utterly blow my mind!

Rings did what the Matrix couldn't do... each Rings flick got better and each Matrix flick got worse. My favorite kind of movies are usually smaller, dialogue driven affairs, but the MORE action I saw in the Rings the better. Not only because those scenes were incredibly well done, but also because the fantasy dialogue drives me insane. Probably why I liked the debut by far the least.

Hmm....
I like the TTT better than the FOTR, I think this one is a sleeper compare to the TTT, yess the pics of landscape is good. But it is too boring.
Just like when I read the book, ( I actually have to use the Cliff notes just to pass te first part/ book, while I read the rest "cover to cover")before I actually "skimmed through " again just to find some more detail

I think Fellowship EE is easily the best of the three. Of course I should wait until ROTK:EE comes out for final judgement, they may have fixed quite a bit. But, TTT and ROTK just had too many gimmicky "movie" things in them that rubbed me the wrong way. Legalos surfing down the stairs on a shield? Gimme a break. And every major battle ended the same way: a large, "unexpected" group of good guys comes to save the day. Wow, no one's ever done that before. I also think the effects were significantly better in Fellowship.
That being said, any one of these was a better movie than 90% of movies to come out of Hollywood in the last 10 years.
