Your favorite film trilogy?
I suppose this has been done before, but what's your favorite film trilogy?
Mine in descending order: Kieslowski's Three Colors Trilogy Ray's Apu Trilogy Star Wars (Episodes IV-VI) Mad Max Trilogy Romero's Living Dead Trilogy Indiana Jones Trilogy Wajda's War Trilogy The Godfather Trilogy Bergman's Faith Trilogy Inagaki's Samurai Trilogy (really need to rewatch these) The Terminator Trilogy Leone's Dollars Trilogy The Back to the Future Trilogy The Jurassic Park Trilogy The Evil Dead Trilogy The Die Hard Trilogy The Naked Gun Trilogy The Rambo Trilogy :D Of course, some of these may be rendered ineligible in the future due to possible fourth installments. I'm not sure where I'd place the Matrix Trilogy as I have yet to see Matrix Revolutions; probably above the Back to the Future Trilogy based on the first two installments. After I see ROTK, I'll probably place the LOTR Trilogy above the Jurassic Park Trilogy. Please feel free to list any others that I may have missed - I know that Antonioni's L'Aventura, La Notte, and L'Eclisse are considered a trilogy, but I haven't seen the latter two yet. |
Welcome. In the future use the search feature to try to find out if a thread has been done before.

Star Wars Saga
Matrix Trilogy LOTR Trilogy Indiana Jones Trilogy |
Star Wars doesn't count! It is more than three!!!!!
Indiana Jones Lord of the Rings And if Argento would finish it - the 'Three Mothers' trilogy! |
okay...well both SW Trilogies...
|
Heh, forgot the Naked Gun Trilogy.
And there's also Fassbinders BDR Trilogy of which I've only seen The Marriage of Maria Braun. Time to unwrap that Criterion box set... |
The Evil Dead trilogy.
(How could anyone forget that? Classic!) |
Originally posted by LivingINClip Star Wars doesn't count! It is more than three!!!!! My other two favorites would be The man with no name and Indiana Jones. |
The last two movies did not happen!! Do you hear me, they never happened! As someone who loves the original three films that is the way I like to view it. |
Austin Powers
Back to the Future The Stepfather |
Back To The Future
|
I wish I could say The Godfather trilogy, but Part III didn't compare to Parts I and II (two of my favorite films of all time).
So as a set of three movies, I'll have to go with the Die Hard trilogy. All three of those action flicks are about equal in good quality, and none of them were disappointing. |
Off the top of my head:
Star Wars (4-6) Indiana Jones Back to the Future Terminator Dead Mad Max Die Hard |
I agree with ya metaridley... My first reaction was GODFATHER!! But then I went Hmm didn't really like the last one (will have to watch it again).
If I had to choose 1... Indiana Jones for pure popcorn fun! |
Lord of the Rings, hands down (and I haven't even seen ROTK yet).
Also a huge fan of BTTF, Die Hard, and Indy. Star Wars is overrated. :D |
Three Colours Trilogy (Bleu, Blanc and Rouge)
IMO, nothing else comes close. |
In order
Star Wars Original Trilogy (there would be no other trilogy without this one) Indiana Jones Trilogy Lord of The Rings Trilogy Matrix Trilogy Die Hard Trilogy Austin Powers Trilogy Terminator Trilogy 1st 3 Alien movies (4th was crap) Godfather Trilogy 1st 3 Rocky movies (5 was supercrap 4...well okay its a Quadrilogy) Scream Trilogy Jurassic Park Trilogy |
Anyone think the Karate Kid trilogy belongs in there (if Dubya can ignore SW Ep. 1-3, then I can ignore the fourth KK movie . . . even more legitimately too, I would say . . . :D )?
|
I want to say the Leone Dollars Trilogy, but I just have to go with the Star Wars Original Trilogy. It's called the "Holy Trilogy" for a reason. :D
|
Does anyone ever consider The Holy Grail, The Life Of Brian, and The Meaning Of Life to be some form of Monty Python trilogy? I guess technically it's not, but if you did think of it that way, I think it would rank up there with some of the greats.

Time Bandits, Brazil, and The Adventures of Baron Munchausen are considered a trilogy - and it should certainly rank up there with the best of them. |
LOTR, Indy, The Man with No Name, Dead (Romero), Evil Dead
|
LOTR
Terminator Indy Matrix Godfather |
Mad Max
|
Kieslowski's Three Colors definitely my first choice. If you're after a second choice, then it would be LOTR.
Both of those are way in front of any other trilogy. Would love to have seen Kieslowski's take on Heaven, Hell and Purgatory. |
